cubase sx

whats going on peoples, my question is about cubase, when i start adding effects cubase just crashes on me, it might only be like 4 effects and the meter on cubase is like at 90, anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?? i have a p4, 512mb, 80gig, i think 1.2 ghz running xp, im pretty sure it can withhold many more effects than this. thanks for the responses.

but listen i run cubase on a p3 500 mhz and nothing crashes wit 414mram on win2k. ive heard that winxp alone is a cpu hog ive had a friend have the same problem after upgrading to xp so he reinstalled 2k and everything was normal again and he has a 2ghz p4.. even wit my p3 500 i run reverb,chorus,deley,comp.gate limit with not a glitch...

You have to tweak xp to get any performance out of it.

Some effects take up more memory than others, so try to use reverbs as sends rather than inserts. I can run about 15 effects on a 1.7 ghz p4.

GeoffShoulders - Good look out on the link. I've been looking for a Cubase forum for awhile. Just to ask. Does anyone know the right settings for the MPC and Cubase to run together? What i'm trying to do is track my music out until I get my mixer. Here is what my setup consist of Custom Built 1.9 Ghz Athlon, 256MB DDR, Soundblaster Platinum 5.1 Soundcard, ATI Radeon Video, MPC 2000xl, EPS Keyboard, Dr660 drummachine, and Yamaha SU200 ( Tight for flexin samples). i guess im just using inserts, how would i go about using sends?? i tweaked it the other day and it still kinda crashed at the 2 min. mark of the song. i been grouping all the voice tracks and adding effects but once i add the reverb ish goes bananas. thanks for the help.

What type of reverb do you use? It could be part of the problem, reverbs are cpu-hungry suckers.

As for send effects, hit F6 to open the send effect window, it looks just like the insert effect window, and works in basically the same way. Select a plugin in that window. Then you can alter how much the send plugin with affect your channels through the mixer view (F3).

I don't have cubase on this computer, but that's basically what you do. It's all explained a lot better in the manual though.

im using the tc-native reverb. i think your right about it eating up my cpu because its only when i add the reverb that i see a big difference in performance.

hey...you should register at www.audioforums.com. Great resource for these kinds of issues.

Do a fresh install of XP.

Remove all perfomance offending options, restore on drives, etc.,

run a dedicated audio drive on a seperate IDE channel.

Don't use hungry Reverbs for your testing...

Apply effects when Cubase isn't running, adding effects whilst its in playback can cause a burst and a crash.

DONT USE PIRATE PLUGINS AND SOFTWARE - the code will be comprimised and cause all kinds of grief... If you have a cracked plug causing you problems.... test with multiple legitimate plugins and narrow down what the offender is....
