"Directory Error" fried all my beats on my card!!!

So i already had mad shit saved on my CF after hours of slicing and even sequencing a descent beat and then when i went to resave my work as a autoload file and replace the old one it suddenly gave me a error reading - "Directory Error"....The **** messed up thing was that i fried all of my files in the process....I mean, having my sequence gone is one thing, but having all of my samples and prgms shited on on the process really sucked!

Anyone else experienced this problem!?....This shit blows.

I read after doing a google that if you save some of your file names with a space this has reportedly been known to cause this.....True?

I've had the directory error a couple of times - usually I cant access the samples from the MPC1000, BUT I can recover them by:

1. USB-transfer the entire memory card to a computer
2. Format Memory Card on MPC1000
3. USB-transfer the entire memory card backup BACK to the 1000

Not sure about the space in the filename thing... I never use spaces and I used to get the same problem... although now that I think about it, there probably are a couple of filenames somewhere on my card that have a space. Although when I was getting that error, it was definately happening to folders that contained NO files with spaces too. Its an interesting theory though.

If I were you I would do what hfinal said. An occasional backup and reformat (always on the MPC) is always good for eliminating file corrption.

Then check my post in thie following thread if you want to eliminate the problem in the future... that workaround has worked perfectly for me. It's all about the "refresh" technique every time you save, or delete.

Whenever I get the directory error I just resave again and it works fine..That has become my solution for this problem....

It seems that that is what causes the worse problems later on... that's what I was doing at first, then stuff started to eventually disappear and I was getting frequent crashes, etc.

Yeah, thats what happened to me,....I resaved again and then my shit magically disapeared!

i honestly can't remember the last time i had a directory error.

i also back my stuff up every week or two.

Anyway, yeah JJ conquered this long standing problem... it's all about the OS 4.01... jyeah.
