The XOX style sequencing trick..

This was posted some time ago in the 4000 forums.

Just wanted to report that for anybody longing for xox style step sequencing on the mpc, this does work for the 2500.
Unfourtunetly, if you enter this stuff in in grid edit, you stumble across the unused track bug somebody reported here a while back which will make the tracks appear as unused in track mute (and hence unmutable!!). Just write a new name for the first track and the rest should follow.

4 tracks of on the fly step sequencing!!! better than nothing i guess.

This takes about 10 to 15 miniutes to set up. Enjoy!

Yea, I saw that already back there. If I understand right, you can only use 1 sound per track with that however, right?

Correct. Of course, you can change the sound of the track on the fly and use q link stuff which helps to vary things a bit.

I use to love this function on my first drum machine..Roland's R70. This is when my timing wasn't that great. I really don't have that issue with MPCs now. But I could see how finding a way to incorporate this X0X style programming into GRID EDIT would be nice. Reason has a similar way of programming drums which is great and very easy to use. Until then, this tip is excellent for anyone needing such a function.

It seems a bit limited to be of much use, but it's a great example of lateral thinking.

Using with the layer feature in q link to simulate accents on hits, i find it to be far less limiting than most step sequencer boxes.

I used to have an 808 and a 909 till i sampled the crap out of it.

its cool to find a rythm you like doing this, then creating a new sequence and writing it out regularly so it only takes 34 tracks. I find graph paper helps a ton when doing this type of thing.
