hi everybody!

i'm new to this board but I it seems to be the best board regarding mpc questions!:

i want to upgrade my studio with an "old" mpc: either an mpc 60 (with the 3.1) or an mpc 3000!
The MPC 60 II (sorry to all users ) is not a real beauty... ;-)

now i wanted to ask the users of these mpcs if they could give me some advice!
the mpc shall not only be used for drums but also for vinyl-samples...

of course i know that the main difference are the mem & the 12-bit but i wanted to ask you how "heavy" the memory- and mono-limitation of the mpc 60 is!
what do i have to look for and what about the "weak" outputs of the old mpcs?

i already read a lot of the archive-threats but i didn't find real help for me...

Thank you in advance for answers!

that's really on you...do you have the extra money? do you want 12 or 16 bit...does it matter?

I have both and decided to keep the 60. What did I like about the 3000? It works better for basslines IMO, it's louder, and it has a headphone jack, and filters.

So, I sent my 60 off to Forat and got the output boost and a headphone jack. Still no filter, not a big deal since I have an S950 which I think has a much better filter, the 3K is built in but isn't all that IMO. I'm also gonna get one of those Moog filters and something else for basslines.

what's the 60 got better on the 3K..better layout, better Screen (huge issue for me) the outputs numbered correctly (lol) and it's my baby, I learned on it and can't let it go

it's on you really, you'll like either

hm... in the last months i worked a lot with software-stuff but i just can't stand it anymore..
in my rack i still got an s900 and an s3000xl.. so i got already the 12 bit sound and the 16bit sound..

i thought about selling my s3000xl and buying a mpc3000 to use it as my "main"-sampler and sequence also the s900 with it..

but what about the output-boost thing? are the outputs too weak? i heared something about that...
as i live in europe it's not that easy to send my mpc to forat... :(

The outputs on my 60II are fine. Just gotta makes you have your bal/unbal wiring in order.

yeah, there's nothing wrong with the outputs at all..I just wanted to justify keeping it and not lust after anythinig the 3K had the 60 didn't...and now I'm straight

thank you everybody so far!

i also thought about the possibility of buying a "60" and triggering my s3000xl...

but maybe it would be easier to have my main sampling unit in my mpc instead of triggering it outside..

sorry but what do you mean with that?

:? :? :? i'm really unsure what to do...

my problem is that i what either a 60 or a 3000 but i haven't the possibility to compare them myself.. i just know the 2000/2000xl..

how much do i have to spend for a mpc 60 mk 1 with the 3.1 update and full memory in an "ok" condition? 700$?
do most of you have the scsi-option?

If I were you you I'd get a 60 and keep both the S900 and the 3000XL. They're both good for different things and worth keeping. The sampler on the 3000 is a phrase sampler just like the 60, theres not a whole lot of difference between the two except for sampling time.

A 60 with 3.1 and memory upgrade should cost at least $700 or more if you buy them to upgrade a 60. Most folks don't have the SCSI option, it's just a luxury. Your drums and sequences will all fit on 1 or 2 disks.

id get a 3k if u can afford it

i miss my 60, but i know it wasnt the machine for me to start out and learn on..

and f*ck the beauty of the 60II... nobody cares what your sampler looks like just what music your making from it

I actually prefer the 60II's looks..sometimes haha

I'd keep the 3000xl too...that's one of the reasons I'm selling my 3K

60 + S950 = >3000 alone IMO

60 + S950 +3000xl = :)

How is an s950 and a 60 equivalent to a 3000? Aren't the s950 and 60 12-bit samplers whereas the 3000 is a 16bit sampler?

yep.
