2000xl can't load 2500 pgms

I created pgms in my friends mpc 2500 but I have a 2000xl. Is there a way I can convert or load these progams?

Have u already tried to load them? If that failed then just load up the sounds individually.

yes, but the 2000xl does not reconize the pgms or the seq/mid. I have spoken with Akai and they told me that the 2000xl does not support 2500 pgms or mids. I just hoped there was a way around my problem.

Another thing is that the 2000xl-mcd did not reconize the CF card, I had to copy all of my data to my PC then format the CF card in the 2000xl. The card was previously formatted in the 2500.

Thats right. Its an older machine and does not support 2500 files. Read the manual and check the "Getting Started" threads.

What im getting at is if u have PGM files then there has to be sounds included in it. So im saying just load those sounds instead of trying to load the pgm file. Load the sounds individually.

can't you save the seq as a standard midi file, i can see why the pgm's wouldnt translate,

I've been trying to find a thread that address the opposite issue here. I just bought a 2500 and already have a 2000XL. When it gets delivered, I was wondering if i'll be able to load the 2000XL .pgm files?

save as WAV files in the 2kxl and the 2500 should be good reading those WAV files.

No need to save as WAV, pretty sure the 2500 will read the SND files.

I know that the sounds will load up easily, but my concern is the .pgm's that I've made over the last few years. Because with drums, I always layer multiple kicks / snares, change tuning and all that which is captured in that .pgm .

Same with samples. It's just very rare for me to use a sound EXACTLY how I sampled it originally which is why these .PGMs are so important for me.

It will load your XL programs, but the 2500 uses a different layering method to the XL, so those original XL layers will be lost when loaded in your 2500.

If you get JJOSXL it has a 'simult' feature, but it's implemented slightly differently and again, I don't think it is able to recognise the XL simult.

what you could do is load up your pgm on the mpc 2000xl and have the outs going to the record ins of your 2500, then hit the pads, and sample each part, and make the program in your 2500 by re-sampling all of your layers. so now all your new stuff will be the drums just merged into 1 .wav instead of layered.

or you could do like tutor said and load all the individual sounds and re-create the program within your 2500 using layers or simult. pads.
