differences in 4000 and 2500

I know that the 4000 is the only unit that can do this but just to be sure does this mean as you scroll through sounds on your internal hd you hear them in your seq qhile its playing. If so I don't know how this feature isn't the first one mentioned when differences between 4000 and 2500 are discussed.

So, while the sequence is playing, there is a need to scroll through samples on the hard drive? I am trying to think of a good reason for this. Is this really possible on the 4000? The 2500 doesn't have this feature.

I don't currently own an mpc but will b puchasing one soon but from my understanding this feature would allow scrolling down a list of kicks for instance to hear how they sound in your seq without having to load it. Just like on a synth, once u have a bassline going you can scroll through different bass patches to hear how they sound in your seq. I believe u can do this on every mpc as long as you have the sound in memory ( please tell me if I am wrong) but what about when u are scrolling through your 80 gb hard drive. Any info is appreciated wile I weigh in on the advantages of spending an xtra 1000 or so on the 4000

Exactly..just like a synth. Once you have a sequence going, you can change the sounds while I sequence is playing..if the sound is already in memory. A sample on the hard drive is not in memory so this is not possible. I don't believe this is possible on the 4000 the way you describe. But as you already stated, you can load up the samples, and then scroll through them. This is possible on the 2500.

On the 4000 it's called "audition". And by the way, a lot of the 2500's features were taken from the 4000 anyway.

That isn't rocket science. Where do you think a lot of 4000 features were taken from?

If you are talking about previewing samples before you load them...the 2500 can do that.

So can the XL....Maybe even all the mpcs, not sure though!!!!

I thought on the XL, you have to press load first to listen to a sample. After that, you have to option to keep or discard it. Is that correct?

Well you do but its basically the same thing!

No...its not really the same thing. If you try it with a large sample, you will see that it isn't. The 2500 can actually audition/play samples directly from the hard drive or CD drive.

2500 run tings .4000 is old news

Well, its only a matter of time when the 2500 will be old news.

Honestly, I am hoping for a 20th anniversary MPC next year that will replace the 4000.

So what you all are saying is that the 2500 is better than the 4000? Are you guys tripping or something. The 4000's overall architecture is beast. I'm not saying this because I own one. I'm saying this from experience and what I've seen this thing do. I'll have to disagree with that.

And furthermore, a lot of us never knew some of the 4000's features until the 2500 came into production anyway.
