so nym what have you heard about when jj or akai dropping 3.0 or a new one?

i think you're asking when the new os download is gonna be available.

the www7 site says the middle of this month.

and as usual, akai says nothing.

Digidesign, E-mu, Roland, Korg, Motu, Yamaha, Steinberg, etc..take your pic..none of these companies advertise the release dates of OS upgrades for their products ???

But since you don't use products from these companies, I guess I can understand why you feel the way you do.

Maybe I am overly perceptive (or sensitive  )....but it was the context of the way you worded your reply. ALL of these companies that produce music gear have pretty much the same practices...Akai is no different.

Yes, it seems like I am the heavy promoter/defender of Akai. But truth be told...I can say we ALL are. We do use MPCs and most likely wouldn't give it up for any single particular thing. We just spend our extra time debating which MPC is the best....and quite honestlty, the 1000 will never...I repeat..never be the best MPC  It will always remain the 'cheap' alternative no matter how you slice it. I don't care if you feel my MPC is overpriced....it you know anything about previous MPCs, you would know that it priced exactly where it should be. It's great that Akai has released an MPC on the lower end and pack it with features. They are trying to put the market in a headlock. Great..fine...excellent. The MPC 1000 is the MPC you get when can't afford (or in your case..can't justify spending more) an MPC 2000XL, 3000, 2500, or 4000.

An SP 404?? Cute lil' bugger :P

Peace!

How long will you continue to talk about a function that actually works? MTC does work as a master or slave.

about that sp-404...if you use a MPC you should have no trouble at all adjusting to one of those machines

I used a 202 for damn near 7 years (along w/ software) before recently buying a 2500...and I don't think I would have been able to adjust to the 2500 if I hadn't used that 202 all of those years

i'd like to get one of the 404's in the near future

we're way off topic unfortunately

but i'm a chopper, i use single notes sampled from wax. sp404 is much more loop based, which i'm not really into. i use it as a effects processor and synth right now...not much more.

it's "easier" to use than an mpc but i find myself without any room inside of it.

If you look at the addendum you will see it doesn't work.
What I mean is it's still supposed to work the old way according to the documentation.
The waiting for sync, it not how it's supposed to work and should still be reported to Akai and a problem.

Also I wish the 1k and 2500 people would understand JJ is Akai.
That why there have been no legal actions against him even though Akai is fully aware of his actions.
Just shows how people minds work.
Akai has been giving free updates on O.S. since the 2k, they realized that money could be generated if they could sell them.
Comes from the new management model.
Don't believe me?
Then tell why is it that the 1k people are now on the edge of their seats waiting for the next release from JJ and willing to pay $30???
Akai will now be getting $30 a head for something they would have previously given for free.
If no one buys it then they will just take it through the normal channels with a slightly difference appearance.
At the same time they would jsut shut down the JJ site like it was a legal process.

Yes, I am aware of that. It worked exactly according to documentation in OS 1.2. With OS 1.22 it was changed. Of course I like the way it works in OS 1.2 because that is they way MPCs have always worked. Akai already knows about this. For now, you will have to use it they way it is (already detailed above and in another thread). You just have to take the extra step (which is so..so hard to do) and press stop on the MPCs transport after your external sequencer starts it. Hate it or love....

I really don't care about Akai or JJ charging for operating systems that add new functions vs just bug fixes. But how will they profit once the OS is made available? The operating system is so small, you can easily mass email it. If people in these forums were crying about spending an extra $30-$50 for the Akai memory and went with 3rd party memory...what makes anyone think that they would spend $30 on an OS when there possibly is way to get it for free???
