8 outs + Digi 002 questions...

Hi, I searched and searched and couldnt find this specific question...hope its not covered to death.

I just got the 8 outs for my 2000xl (yeah! finally!) and are excited to utilize it with my 002r.

my question is this - what is the best way to hook it up? I know the 8outs are identical to the stereo outs, and I always just hooked my main outs up to the preamp inputs on my 002r. However, now im wondering if its gonna make a weird sound difference if 4 of the multiouts are going into preamps and 4 are going into the analog inputs....even if I leave the preamp turned all the way down, arent my outs gonna track at different levels?

The first four inputs on the 002r can be either line or Mic input. The buttons over the gain knobs switch between the Mic pre and the Line inputs.

The best thing to do is to run a constant tone through all 8 outputs on the MPC. (You could use a Sine wave sample for this). This way you know that it's the same thing coming out all outputs. Hook the outputs to the Line inputs on the 002. Create a session in protools. Create 8 audio tracks in protools and set their inputs from 1-8. Hit the record arm button on each track. You'll be able to see the levels.

Since lines 5-8 are fixed at either +4 or -12 (on the back) you will have to use the gain knobs on channels 1-4 to match the levels with channels 5-8.

When the inputs in Line mode all eight channels are basically the same.
