Question for heads who have installed a MCD in their 2000xl

arite then, i followed the instructions on that how-to site that everyone refers to here.....so first on the power harness i snipped the extra yellow and black wires. which leaves the red and black. i didnt have to get a diffrent harness connector cuz it plugged right into the mcd drive, pleasant surprise. then i plug in the ribbon connection, great. now i try to format a 2.0gb sd card nuthin. nuthin at all. the only reaction i get from this damn drive is a light when i take the card OUT!? lol now thats good shit. i have two lights on this drive. i get the bottom light to come on, which i think is related to the cf part but the top one....which deals with the sd, ms, ex....doesnt do anything. so i need some input.

read just about everything i could find on here and it seems that mpc's just generally have problems with sd cards while cf cards are just fine. interesting, maybe one day someone will figure out why the hell our drives wont read sd correctly....

As far as I know,mpc 2000xl can't deal with memory cards with capacity bigger than 1 GB.
By the way,better try the Compact Flash card,SD (as you already know) don't seem to work fine.

word, im gettin a couple cf cards tomorow see how things go from there.....im still bound and determined to crack this sd problem!

its best not to fool with cards over 512mb, in my opinion. unless you like how it partitions the card, into 520mb chunks. i had this with my 1gb card, i got a 512mb in each slot now, CF & SD and they work great.

i use sandisk 512mb strictly, never had 1 issue. if i had a card larger than 512 i wouldnt use it in the mpc. trade them for 512's if u can

1Gig cards work perfect without the need to partition if you run os 1.20. On 1.14 you just make 2 512mb partitions and you're set. But for exchanging data between the mpc and a computer it is indeed easier to use 512Mb card since they don't need to be partitioned.

EDIT: Don't forget that os1.20 has dropped the functionality of partitioning media when you format it

well i just gotta hold of a 512 sd card and thats still no go....im completely stumped is it the ribbon cable????? why doesnt the sd read?! thats ridiculous.

whats is this i read about jumper settings? master and slave, how do i set this up?

i never used SD cards only compact flash. even though my card reader has a slot for them. i stuck with the 512mb cf since day 1.

ye, the reason im so concerned with gettin the sd to work for me is cuz i have a 5-in-1 reader on my laptop and cf isnt supported on it, but it looks like ima have to snag up a usb reader for the cf which i think is whack cuz i have a reader that should be workin for it and its not, ya kno? have to spend more money, damn kid. o well it'll come around eventually, hopefully ha

oh now i see what your reasoning was for wanting to use sd memory.

i hate when stuff works out like that. if there were a internal zip drive on my pc, i would not have upgraded so soon to a card reader. but thankfully i did. good luck with everything
