How many bars are your sequences usually in your beats??
I notice a lot of people out there doing like 2 bar sequences and 4 bar sequences?? I usually do 8 bar sequences on my beats. I understand if you use 2 bar sequences u can do more variations but i usually do all my variations on 8 bar loops...Having too many sequences floating around is a headache for me thats why I'd rather do 8 bar sequences...

Why do people separate all there drums to different tracks when clearly there is no need to?? I seperate all my drums too but in reality it does not matter.
Most ametures who think they know what there talking about say "I seperate my drums so I can track my beat out to daw" My reply, When you track your beat out your tracking your sounds to outputs. Kick to output 1 snare to output 2 ect. There is no need to seperate them by tracks.
Some will say "I want different swing settings on my drums" My reply, U can swing individual notes to different settings on the same track. U can even shift different notes to different positions on the same trak.

Cosign. If u want to mute the kick which is on Track 1 along with a snare on track 1 then both will get muted. Thats why i just prefer to put everything on its on track.

Also i usually start with an 4 bar sequence and go from there.(I use the mpc2000)

I think u can mute pads in the mute screen...
Or maybe its only tracks that get muted using the pads...

You can mute pads in realtime on the mute screen on xl, or you can pre-program your mutes/dropouts.

By tracking out your samples into a DAW you can eq, filter or process each track seperately without affecting other tracks. You can eq each tracks to "perfection" (or whatever your version of perfection is).

I thought you knew this already Jac. You are right though, many beginners just read and hear about this all the time and don't really grasp the concept I think. Just jump on the bandwagon cause they see it so much, sorta like the "quality of sound issues"....

But your tracks dont need to be seperated to do that Lamp

if you have more samples then outputs(which people who stack their shiz do) then you have to seperate everything...

ie. I sometimes use realtime timestretch, paramtric eq, virtos noise filters on a single instrument/track, can I do that inside the 2kxl, nope. I have filters on my eb16 but it's not adequate for what I'm trying to do, I might need to track out to a DAW.

Sometimes people might want a compressor on certain tracks, can't do that inside a 2kxl, that person might wanna track out to DAW.

Just cause you do it, doesn't mean that others might not want to or need to do it. Sounds cliche but to each his own right? If it works for you cool. If not, then maybe you'd track out to DAW to do something with your tracks that 2kxl doesn't do so well or can't do at all.
