Time stretch is the shyt!

I was always the main one saying how I never used it..
Not that I had anything against it...
I just thought I never needed to use it.
That shows my inexperience right their
This shyt stepped my game up crazy now...
I started fukin around with it a couple days ago

u mean on ur xl? cuz if u do then u need to chek out how much doper stretchin would b if u got a hardware piece that is made for doin that... i know alotafools here would say do it on ur pc... but ima hardware dood so thats wut i suggest...i believe u wen u say it steped up your game... when u figure out the best way 4 u to chop and stretch and pitch certain samples that r best 4 that, then it does open up a whole new spectrum... esp if ur a heavy sample dood...i am a hardcore sampler to the max...though im not bound by it...buticeewutumean...

Timestretching small peices on 2kxl is cool, the bigger the file the LONGER the process will take, and I mean it's a LONG time. When I do timestretch I use Sound Forge though, 2kxl is just too slow for some of the samples I process..

See thats the thing Lamp...
When I stretch a long sample it doesnt take a while...
I stretch it in the bpm screen
You know when u open up Time stretch then open bpm and when u change the tempo to whatever it dont take long....
I think I waited 30 seconds Max for a long sample...

i still dont really use TS .. im kinda like jac .. havent had a need to yet ... im not a heavy sampler .. as ive said before i use the MPC as a sequencer mostly ... so how does time stretch do wut it do ...
i.e like it takes a sample and basically forces it into the tempo you want ...
but cant you just pitch shift it and get the same result basically ... :?:

Pitchshift would change up/down the pitch/tune of the sample. If the sample is a piano hit it and you pitchshift then the tune would go up/down right, right. If you timestretch that piano hit the tune would stay the same and the note would get shorter/longer in length, right? right. Not a big deal to most cause it's a one shot/one hit.

If you use a loop, riff, drum break then you don't want the tune (in this case since it's a loop we can substitute tune for bpm of the sample) going up and down cause then it won't fit inside your sequence, your loop will playback slow or fast, not what you want if you are adamant a certain tempo you want. So you wanna make it longer/shorter without affecting the tune = timestretch. NOW, it can fit your certain tempo you want.

Peace, good info. I too never use it, i'm damn near anti-timestretch, but now i think i'm ready to get more into it, so that sparks a question...

Say u have ur loop, pitched to ur liking, but the tempo is off by say, 1/2 a BPM. How do u know how much to stretch the loop? Is it just a trial and error thing? Thx in advance!

Trial and error or google "deepsound" and look for the timestretch calculator on the website, the exact link is in my "useful links" in my sig below.

Found it, definitely appreciate it!

ableton then mpc, pure bliss, i can have it timestreched and about 6 different variation of the loops, exported and back on the SD card ready to load. b4 the mpc even does 10% of the TS.

Co-sign on Ableton.
It's easily the best for time stretching loops. Makes recycle look dated.

But I try to avoid time stretching in general. Anything over 5 or 6 bpm and you start hearing weird stuff in the sample. TS also has a nasty habit of messin up the starts of drum hits. So you lose some of the attack. But it's useful when you're one or two bpm either side of the tempo.

if the loop is an exact amount of beats (loops correctly) in the bpm timestretch u enter the number of beats and let it detects teh tempo.

it never disappointed me.
or install melodyne on ya pc

Keyword IF, not everyone can do this properly or close to properly. So back to trial and error until they learn. Look at how many posts there are about looping correctly....
