Pendulum.. the most rockin track of last year... and they're form Australia too.. which made all of us Oz Dnb Headz proud...

anyone who hasnt heard Pendulums "vault" has gotta check it for the drum styles on that track... the "clown step".. rave build up and smashing tight nasty beats..

yup i agree with djames....producers dont have to be programmers...im actually sure that in the rnb realm producers like baby face probably have some one do all the drum and synth programming for him so he can oversee the whole thing rather than getting hung up on tweaking the right keys sound...

I'm not disagreeing with DJames or Prah, I am just saying in my eyes I can't call DR. Dre the best producer on the mic because not only does he not write his own rhymes but he also doesn't program the beats... maybe he could be a great producer, one of the most sought after in the game of hip hop OR rnb, but alot of cats I look up to not only write their rhymes AND perform them, program their own stuff AND produce the track... so it's like to me those cats are the ones I'm most inspired by and I can't call someone the best if their music doesn't move me. Besides, the beats DRE produces... they have a good sound to them but they are flat and dont' have any emotion... I like emotionally driven stuff, like early RZA and Alchemist, MF Doom... Madlib, you know, stuff that the beat gives a feeling and a vibe, not just club music although I like that too but it doesn't make me all soft and mushy inside the way these other cats do.

A producer is the guy that produce the whole project for the label. He is usally in charge of arrangments, direction, enginering, mastering, everything. Good producers "produce" the talent. The make a guitarist come in and play a few licks. The make the vocalist sing the right way. THe work with the engineer to get the right sound. If Dre is gettin someone else to press some pads, then he is producing. The same if he hires a pianist to come in for a couple of bars. He is like the manager. He has to coach artists, musians, techies, and the label. He has his hands on everything. Their is a difference between that dude who makes beats, and the producer. The producer is the jack of all trades in the lab. You can produce without even touching instuments. Its all about direction and his vision and guiadence.
