2kxl sampling with digital in

I´ve been wondering about sampling and recording strictly with the 8 out boards digital input and output.
For years I´ve been using the standard analog in & out.
While many people notice the "thin sound" of the MPC converters, would using the digital in and out solve this sound quality issue.

What about a high quality preamp with digital in & out to enhance the sound even more before it gets to the mpc.

So, is there a noticeable difference in sound quality when using the digital I/O in comparison to the analog I/O?

Yes, the digital ins will overcome this. An analog signal has to go through the MPC's A/D converters, and that is where people are claiming the "thin" sound. Every converter is different, and sometimes its just a matter of taste (you decide if you like it or not). Digital ins will come in as digital, and are stored in the same unchanged digital format. The same goes for sampling into your computer through a quality converter and/or interface, then moving the sample over to the MPC by disk. That method is usually even easier than bothering with the digital ins, as if you have already sampled it into the computer, its easier to trim up there and bring the file over.

Keep in mind the analog outs go through a conversion too which could also attribute for the "thin" sound you are referring to. Digital outs to an interface will keep the sound untouched... but then you lose your 8 outs. Makes me want the 4k with an ADAT board.

ok, thanks for clarifying this... I´ll do some experiments with the computer and the MPC and see how that sounds...
