ERASE feature...

Anyone else find this annoying;

When the sequencer is playing and i want to erase say a chord or even a single note, it will erase the original notes already there but also add what im already trying to erase to the sequence when i press the keys on my midi controller. It doesnt do this when I erase using the PADS which is good for drums but i have complex chords and have to use the keyboard to erase them.

This is really annoying to me because i have to stop the sequencer then erase the notes. I hate having to stop the sequencer to do what i want.

I really wish i wouldnt have to ever stop the sequencer to do simple things...

if you never stop the sequencer, i have a feelign that you rarely go into step edit, huh? if so, you're using your mpc1000 blind, as if it was an sp404

do NOT shy from step edit/grid edit. it is your biggest friend in making a convincing groove.

i stop and start my sequences and make edits in under 2 seconds. friensd say i sound like a big clock: tshshshshs (data wheel) click click (buttons) and it sounds like my mpc1000 is coughing up a hairball because of the way i hit play/stop to hear if i like it.

Dont you see that something is wrong with the ERASE feature if using a midi keyboard while erasing when the sequncer is playing??? When you press and hold erase there shoudnt be any new notes recorded. What will happen is you will never be able to delete the notes you want and just be in a loop.

This has nothing to do with being lazy and im not some newb with an mpc (I no this thing inside out). If you havent experienced the problem I posted dont reply to the message its not constructive.

Their should be some kind of note off so that the same notes you are trying to erase with the midi keyboard arent re-added when erasing with the sequencer running. This seems such a simple thing but would make the sequencer better for my "not stopping the sequence type workflow".

To answer your post Im always in the step edit and very familiar with it. But not having to stop the sequencer makes creating a beat a more natural thing (well to me..).


And im a keyboard player and use many more chords/notes than the average beat maker in music nowadays. To erase a bad chord for me will not take 2 seconds in step edit and i doubt you would be able to delete a chord with say 7 notes in under 2 second at for example bar 15 in a 16 bar sequence. I can shift + down and select mulitple notes to be deleted which is useful but i still think there is a problem with the erase feature.
