Changing Sequences on the 2000XL

I'm not sure I'm doing this properly but here is the scenario I'm trying to do.

I want to be able to make a sequence live on the fly. When I'm done with the sequence I've made, I want to switch to another sequence without having to stop the machine.

I've made a bunch of blank sequences with the swing setting and sequence length of my choice. Now when I try to change to those sequences live, the machine only allows me to move to one sequence. After that, it will not let me change sequences again unless I stop the machine.

I'm sure I'm going about this wrong. Any suggestions?

All you have to do is have the sequence selected and move the jog wheel!!!!

Yeah make sure SEQUENCE is highlighted and turn the data wheel as La stated. I do that all the time when i want to see how my sequence arrangement is coming. Are u doing that as we stated? Remember you have to have SEQUENCE highlighted each time even when u go to the next sequence in order to keep changing using the data wheel.

keep in mind that when you change the sequence the mpc will wait til the end of the current sequence to change....

also, if you go into NEXT SEQ mode you can switch sequences at whatever time you want by changing the seq and hittin the SUDDEN key....

aaannnd if you hit the PAD soft key you can use the pads to choose the next seq....

Sorry, I guess I'm actually asking 2 questions here...

1. Is it possible to move to a blank/new seq while the MPC is playing? So far, I can only switch to a seq that is already named or has data on it. I've tried to get around this by setting up a bunch of empty sequences ahead of time (I'm using it in a live setting, btw)...but that's not really ideal.

2. Also, I am able to switch seqs while it is playing just fine, until I hit the 'overdub' button. From that point on, even if the overdub is turned off, it just won't let me switch seqs until I stop and restart the MPC altogether.

I've gotten around the 1st problem by working with tracks instead of seqs, but the 2nd issue is a pretty major problem at the moment...

As far as I know, you have to stop the sequence after recording in order to switch to the next sequence.  I've tried to do it a few times and it wouldn't let me.

exactly. you can switch sequences while playing back no doubt but if you just finished recording a new track or whateva you cant go to another sequence unless u stop playback and push play again to like get it out f rec/overdub mode or whateva u wanna call it. and if you playing back a sequence and you wanna go to another sequence in real time the MP will obviously let you switch only to the seqences with data on it. you r playing back sequences, it wont play something with no data on it (unused seq.). you wouldnt hear sh*t u feel me lol

sounds like you need a mungo sync.

it will only be good, if u are slaving the mpc, to something else. when you stop the mpc to load up a new bank or some new sequences, you hit the big red button, and it will wait till the first tick of the incoming clock to restart the mpc. Locked into the running clock source.

i have one of Mungo's sync units retrofitted into my opcode studio 3. it is amazing for live use. so much so im looking to get him to retrofit all 6 outputs with these chips.

i use an MPC2000xl as master and have out SU700 on the modded output. it allows us to stop the SU load a new song and then start it in perfect sync. everyone who plays live will need one of these!
