Beyond 32mb

Does anyone know if akai will release a upgrade for more than 32mb?

The mpc2000xl was developed in 1998. Its not that old.

I doubt it, unless the motherboard of the mpc can be uograded or some shit

i seriously have not needed more than 32 mb...i am being serious here

Ive been thinking about this, when the MPC2000 and the XL were made, the sturdiest ram that was available was 72pin EDO Simms, they only went up to 32mb when the machines were developed, in the specs for the 2000, it says it has two 72pin edo simm slots, nothing about what they hold, i reckon it would be worth someone trying to put 64mb in there. because i do think theres a chance it will read it.

I think I could make do with the standard 2mb that comes with the mpc.. if you need more than 32 megs, I'd love to hear your trax.., but I'd hate to save your program files

They released the flash rom which is an additional 8mb equaling 40mb in total when added to an already 32bm set up for around $400

Exactly, that's why I don't have one!

Shure your drum and percussion samples take up no space at all. Its those synth pads, and sound effects that burn up all that memory. There have been a few times now, I was unable to load up a pad or a fx.

I guess I could resample all my big ass files.

32mb is enough. A mere OS update will not do it, you motherboard will have to be modified and could be costly.

Honestly, why even dream about it.

When I had my 2k all I ever had in it was 16megs. Since I didnt have the program change when I switched seqs I just made do with what I had. Didnt seem to be any reason why I should go to 32megs. But I can understand where people with the xl could take advantage of more memmory

32mb is like over 3 minutes stereo, and over six minutes mono... that's more than sufficient, I had an intro with two long vocal snippets from a movie and a complete beat to it and it didn't even take up 10mb...

the 1000 has 128mb but no timestretch

id be impressed if you really needed more than 32, with all of the things you could do to save space. honestly, thatd be insane.


if youre loading wavs. then convert to snd files

if you have too many sounds, convert to mono on the ones that you can

all those chopped samples that you trimmed, discard the rest of the sample.
