how stable is the latest mpc1000 os? (the one from akai) are there still any unfixed bugs? can anybody still make the machine crash?

i had an mpc1000 with an early os and there were still some unresolved issues but i was only using it as a sequencer so i wasn't paying much attention.

i'm thinking of replacing my mpc60 with a 1000 but i don't want to replace something that is as steady as a rock with something wobbly.

cheers.

os 2.1 - amp envelope bug. no freeze, just artifacts. taken care of in 3.05

saving bugs - medium based. here and there. workarounds are easy.

1.5 years of using it, and no button failure for me. the pads can be modded easily to work better. New mpc1000s do not have the same kind of pad problems as the old bluenreds did.

thanks for responding. so the build quality has actually increased with the new black model? or is it just that nobody has had one of the black models long enough for it to break down? in the short time i had a mpc-1000 (one of the early blue models) i had to return 2 of them before i found one that i was happy with.

OS 3.05 is not from akai it's the 3rd party one right?

are there any saving bugs to compact flash? or more importantly is anybody losing any data? i'm assuming after the directory error you can still save if you try again?

My mpc has button problems and its the new black one. The pad 6 reads as 5 and 5 reads as 6. Wierd, but new one will be here tomorrow and this one is going back.

i own a 2004 model its the blue one. its just the software of 2.1 cause i hear that 3.0 has like all the bugs i mentiond fixed. i havent even checkd out 3.0. if i were u i wouldnt get rid of ur mpc60 for an mpc1000, u can finance an mpc1000 for cheap its a cool machine but i dont see why u wanna get one if u already have an mpc besides more storage.

i don't finance anything that is not going to make me money. protools i can make money off of but a mpc, nah. i don't sell beats, i barely even make them anymore. drum machines are for fun.

i'm starting to rethink getting rid of the 60, but the reasoning was that i've been making less music these days and i was trying to simplify my setup a bit.

anyways thanks for the responses.

cheers.

Nobody want to pay several hundred dollars for something that they will have to fix/mod themselves. But with that said, is it fact/fiction that the new black models are built better?

i take it you've never read "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance..."

statistical info says yes the new one's pads have more glue on em, causing them to float less - if at all. haven't heard of black model pads going bad, or VST replacement pads

so all this pad failure goes to the blue model , even when i got it 2006 :D im sure they glued em better that time.

???
I take it you never read "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"......

But anyway...So you are speaking on statistical info vs some real facts? Where did you get this info from? It appears most of the users in the forum (who are not the majority of people who use the 1000) are using the older blue models or buying the black outer case to give their 1000 a newer look. If you are taking statistics from this forum, you are getting skewed data.

I really am interested if the newer models can hold up. The local GC here only has the older blue model on display (whose pads still don't work  ). I guess time will reveal the truth....

well sir, the fact is i've written several papers on One Flew, which, in my opinion, is Kesey's best book by far

statistical info vs some real facts?

hahah that's the problem with this country.
