this is just an FYI. i just heard the same samples played in the same studio through an mpc4000, 2500, and a s5000. the difference in sound was painfully obvious. the mpc4000 had a a boost in the low end and mid lows with a roll off on the highs. the 2500 and s5000 definitely sounded more brittle. of course the difference was bigger with a snare with a good high end snap on it but the kicks were obvious too. i have always been in the camp of what you put in you get out. not anymore. i have a mpc 3k and a 1k and use the 1k more cuz of the functions but after that session, i think i might have to bring the 3k out again....
