8 Outs for $187?!?!

Take a look at this guys...the 8 output expander card for the 2000XL with an OPEN BOX/DEMO status...would you trust this?? That's a great price but aren't these boards supposed to be handled carefully and everything...and this is a DEMO unit?? So it was sitting on the shelf and people picked it up and stuff?!?! That seems weird for a computer-type card that needs to be INSTALLED...but an open box 8 outs...hmmmm....what are YOUR opinions on it??

Good deal no doubt, but when it comes to certain things I like to buy new just in case. With that said - I have taken other gambles when it comes to buying gear.

It probably simply means it is a used item, possibly sold to them by a customer or stripped out of an MPC... just like you'd find on ebay for about the same price. I've been to audio lines, they are a legit music store in Chicago, and can be trusted. With expansion boards, they typically either work or they don't, so just make sure they can garuntee its not DOA.

Look at www.roguemusic.com.  I saw one on there earlier for around that much.  They are a reputable dealer and they ship all over the world.  Talk to Brent.  Tell em L-Fire at YNNY sent you.

I bought a fully blown xl from guitar center for 450....
I stripped the 8 outs memory and fx board and sold the raw mpc for 650 on Ebay... You do the math

a used 8 outs card for that price a good deal???? hell naw! U can buy those for € 125,-! That's like 110 usd! So DON'T BUY IT!

oh guess what...go to that link now. They jacked up the price on it! Plus they NEVER emailed me back and I also called them and they never returned my call...sounds like a lousy company to me...better stay away from them!!!

oh and L-Fire...I emailed Brent at roguemusic.com so I'm waiting to see what he can offer me...I have one reserved at vstservice.com for $249 but I'd really like to get it for less because I'm going on vacation in a week and would like to have as much $$ as possible...so I'll see what's up...

wow...I got a message back from roguemusic.com and it's only $195 so I'm going to go with them as long as it's new!! thanks for the tip!!

i bought mine a while ago from audiolines for $199 and I got mine fine without any problems.

i went to that link and i see the price went up already...aight check this out....if you think that board is shady, what you can do is take that price and copy the link and goto American Musical (or something similar) and let them know that you found the board for a cheaper price. They have a price match program that says if you find a price cheaper then theirs, send it to them and they'll review it. Then they will match the price of the one you found. So instead of getting it from AudioLines, you can get it from AmericanMusical (or where ever) for about the same price but you know its legit.

the only catch is I think they wont take that DEMO price but they need the original price. But its worth a try!

When I got mine a few months ago, I did the same thing. Audio Lines offered the 8 outs for $199 and American Musical was like $250. I sent them the price I found and they replied with this:

at the time, audio lines' price was still cheaper then what A.M. offered me, so I stayed with Audio lines. But the lowest price match thing works man. Find a place that will match that price you found and you can get it cheaper then that.

All akai boards are always in demand and not that available, so you have to do some searching and haggling to get a decent price. It's going to change by the day, so you really have to just hunt. The used price of the 2ks have gone down, but not the boards (I got mine used for 200 a few years ago and that was a good deal then). So the cheapest way is to strip one out of a loaded MPC and resell (or just keep the loaded and sell yours) like Jacpot said. If you go that route, you can try to get one of the cool SE models.

I just got it from VST Service...they are really nice people that seem to know their stuff and they said that it was new and the original board so I got it from them...maybe a little more money than the used ones but I'd rather get it new...
