? on using midi with MPC 2000

I'll apologize ahead for my beginner question. Couldn't find anything specific in the million posts. I have hooked up my keyboard to my MPC2000 and can hear the sounds assigned to pads by pressing the corresponding keys. However, I cant (for the world) seem to take one sample and and have its notes spread across the keys instead. I've been settling with assigning the 16 levels to note tuning and playing melodies on the pads. However, as u know, pads are stiff and dont give natural transition of notes. I'm positive I can have the notes spread across the keys, but I'm having no luck and the manual lists nothing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a classic MPC2000....NO you can not do that

If you have the XL you can but Im not sure if its like the 4k with converting a sound into a key group

in the 4k you have programs and key groups. key groups have ususaly one sound in them maybe two if some one wants to have one sound on one side of the keyboard and another sound on the other half, but mostly its just one (for me ). Programs have multiple sounds in them as you already know. but Like i said before I dont know much about the 2ks architecture. hope I was of some help

Im not sure if the 2k has auto chromatic in it. I have the xl. In the program screen look if there is AUTO on F5. If it does you can make a whole program outta one sample and map it chromaticly across all the keys. Not sure if 2k has it.

i just connected my synth to xl. i select the MIDI 1A Device and try to record what i play with ceyboard, it records the notes nicely but when i try to play that track nothin comes out, i can see the notes in step edit mode? xl is connected fine and track mute is of.

And do you have the outputs of your synth connected to your amp/speakers/monitors/mixer ? Because your mpc of course will only play back the recorded midi data to the synth who produces the sound.

and b4 i forget make sure that the corresponding midi out on you mpc is connected to the midi in on your synth.

connections should be ok.
synth out --> mpc in
synth in --> mpc out

Just got the synth and i havent get any cabels yet. But it has internal speakers.
