MPC 2000xl midi with rackmount sound module

How do I play sounds threw midi from my sound module to my mpc 2000xl? I can control sounds threw midi on my mpc but I cant sequence or hear sounds coming out of the mpc. I can only hear sounds coming from the sound module when I plug in headphones or when I plug it into an amp. Maybe because Im using midi in to the sound module and midi out on the mpc>?

MIDI is just a controller language. It just tells your synth NOTE ON or NOTE OFF. OR controller changes. It DOES NOT transimit audio. It will just tell your synth to play and when to stop playin when the events are sequenced in the MPC.

record a track on the mpc sequencer. Make sure the track type is set to midi and not drum. That way you will be able to record midi events sent to the sound module.

How do I turn the track to midi so I can record with the rest of my drum tracks on the mpc 2kxl. I would like to SAVE all drum tracks and midi tracks TOGETHER with a sequence or sequences on my mpc's zip drive.

like you would save any sequence, just make sure for the midi tracks you name the instruments u r using so when you load the seq. you can go right to them.

Do you have a midi keyboard controller for your module?

If you scroll to the bottom left of your mpc screen, you will see a text slot that says "S:DRUM" and then to the right ":OFF"

Use your directional cursor and select that field.

Now, use your jog wheel, and turn untill it reads midi, NOT drum. Now, in the field to the right where it says ":OFF" change this to midi chaNNEL 1. Now you are recording midi data.

I already did that I can control the sound module with the pads. But how do I hear the sound out of the mpc not the sound module ? maybe I need to transmit sound data buy using the hand shake method?

You need a mixer point blank! No if ands or buts about it. It doesn't have to cost $200 or $50 dollars for that matter. As long as you can hook up all your sources you're good to go.

You have to hook the sound module up to your amp/mixer/tuner etc. If you have a dj mixer:
channel 1=MPC
channel 2=Sound Module

There is no way to get it to play through the mpc. Its outs have to go to where the Mpcs outs are goin. MIDI DOES NOT SEND AUDIO. JUST MESSAGES LIKE "TURN THIS NOTE ON, OKAY TURN THIS NOTE OFF"
You need a mixer. You can get a dj mixer (in your budget probaly best idea) or you can get a cheap studio mixer for under $200. But you need 2 channels. The mpc can only play what is loaded into it. You can always sample the sound module, and replay it on the pads, but the mixer is your best option. One more time: MIDI SENDS PERFORMANCE DATA NOT SOUND. NO SOUND WILL BE COMING INTO YOUR MPC EXCEPT FOR WHAT YOU ARE SAMPLING.
