damn, this is gonna bring about a forum thats even worse then the 1k forum...

true. my sincere pity to whoever has to mod it.

i see this as a good and bad thing. good because it'll be another low priced mpc that has an os which can be bettered.

bad because it's not gonna have anything new. if akai's just looking to make an sp404 competitor, they're totally working the wrong angle as sps and mpcs are nothing alike. i think akai's smartest move would be to spend more money on software upgrades right now instead of flooding the market with black machines of varying sizes but same functionality.

I know, looks like some1 photoshopped a PSP with a MPC,alerting moderators I did NOT create that picture,it came from another site.

I thought the 1 k is supposed to be the affordable portable model?

Who knows, this machine has the potential to become a little powerhouse. but judging by the 'ultra portable' tag, it sounds like the sampling possibilities arent its main priority...

Now if this new MPC does drop lets see how many people get rid of their 2500s to get one.. Just so they can say they got the new MPC on the block... lol..

hahah

"look, it's quite simple. the akai mpc500 is clearly better than any other new mpcs. All other mpcs feel like toys compared to the 500."

If sampling is not is priority what is? That doesn't make sense.

In terms of this mpc 500(if there even is one) - "ultra portability" is its main priority.

I was just saying that something has to be sacrificed, in order for it be ultra portable and cheap.

Yes, things like digital ins and outs, one set of midi ports, a few analog outs, adddition of a wallwart, etc... and pads maybe more like a Roland SP but velocity sensitive. Sampling time is just too cheap for that to make a difference. If the focus wasn't on sampling...it would not be an MPC... it would have the MPD moniker...or something new.

I have a feeling it will be a MPD / MPC hybrid that will be closer to the Roland SP-404 / SP-606 in functionality...but some equal focus on it being a software controller. It will most likely run on batteries, will have only analog stereo ins and outs, CF Card only (no HD), smaller package. However, for $799...it must comes bundled with software...or offer something that the 1000 does not.

I think the 500 will be what people thought the 1000 would be and wasn't. As soon as the 1k came out, anyone with a bigger MPC saw it as posibly being usefull for on the road... but there was no battery, so I'm wondering if they will get that right this time. There will definately be compromises just like the 1k has from the other models. The 1k sold very well for them, so it makes sense for them to continue selling products at a lower price point to compete against a lot of the beginner gear out there. They've clearly given up on their high end hardware for now unfortunately. Instead they just keep repackage the same 15 year old OS in a newer and cheaper boxes with less features.

I'd be fine with this...if they lowered their prices.

That sounds ryte, antonym. I'd gamble on those type of specs.
I guess I do hope this never comes out. but I do know computer heads who sequence and are serious about music, and their like, "I don't want the sampler cus I have Kontact (maybe a kurz or Akai etc). I just want that sequencer!"

so, It may be cool if people who aren't down with paying $2000 can see just how dope the MPCs very basic sequencer can be. Other than that, it's just a pimping of the brand name to get entry levelers in. I can't agree with you guys enough that Numeezy is WHILING OUT with that price tag tho'. they should charge $300 for these things, tops.

man definitely - even before 2.1 for the mpc, back when it was just a basic wave sequencer, i was in love with step edit and sequences. the very concept and layout of the mpc sequencers is great, esp coming from an acid/reason background.

i am firmly committed to the belief that using an mpc sequencer makes you pay more attention to detail and groove before moving on to the next seq.

a 300 dollar sequencer would be ideal for a LOT of people i know. it could just be used to outsource the sequencing for software, as well as basic sampling.

however, akai needs to make it so that the USB can be hooked up/files can be dragged into the cf card on the fly without having to disconnect the device before browsing away from the load/save page - that way people can chop, edit samples and shit on their pcs.
