I agree...though I think battery powered and maybe even 8-9 pads. My only problem with the specs we suspsect is that it costs $799...list $1099. That seems high for a competitor to the Roland SP-404/SP-606.

i'm saying 400 tops. no more, definitely.

at this point, people who are paying $800+ for 1000s and $1200+ for 2500s are paying for brand name only. parts/labor is cheap - and they're obviously not spending a lot of money on software. only new products.

I doubt it'll be $400... but maybe $600 would be ok.

Cant really judge it yet. i mean, i would pay 800 if it had tetris on it. but we dont know that yet, do we?

How do you even know when it hasn't even been introduced...no pics, no specs... that is just silly. Perhaps it offers something useful the MPC1000 doesn't.

the price should not be anywhere near the 1000. just like the 1000 is no where near the proce of a 2500.

if it has features the 1000 doesnt---thats silly!! why not put those feature IN the 1000 instead of wastin it on handheld version?

the 1000 is already portable. a handheld is overkill anyways..

Who said it will be handheld? Jesus, they aren't going to release a gameboy or even a Yamaha QY sized machine... just something that isn't as heavy and bulky as the MPC1000...probably like the SP-404 size or even the size of the MPD24. It could have things the MPC1000 doesn't have such as the option to use it as a USB controller, come bundled with software, more effects ala the Roland SP-404, battery capabilities, etc. Also, some people like portable devices. Sure, the 2500 is alot more expensive than the 1000... but really, should it be? No. The 2500 doesn't add enough to warrant $1000 more. Do I think $800 is too close to the 1000 price...yes. However, to think that it will be $300 is hoping for too much.

I think a set of RCA inputs would work, if they had a toggle switch between PHONO/LINE.

RCA output is trash.
One pair of balanced 1/4" outputs standard, and extra assignable outs, available as an expansion for $175.

I think it'll be a smaller 1000, with a phono pre & batteries...

...and PLENTY of extra options to buy later... :twisted: $$$

Other than that, I like the list NYM.

I doubt there will be any add on options except the CF Card.

It's gonna be Bare Bones, if it ever comes out.
I bet the Shift button will be used alot to get to the functions, ie naming stuff, sampling and such.
I've only messed with the 2K's so I don't know how it works on the 1k, so it'll probably be similar I guess.

hey everyone... i actually talked with someone at nova music... they had some interesting info to share with us. For one, the ad they posted was premature, the akai rep gave the go ahead to early... it will begin marketing soon though. Still no pictures though, they havent seen it yet.

CONFIRMED:

The MPC500 can be run on batteries, making it totally portable!

There will be 12 pads total. This gives you a good idea on the size of the unit. Picture a mini 1000

Nova is taking preorders on this... and it looks like it will cost $749. Its official. They will take preorders, and then you pay for it when they get them in.

They were not sure of any of the other features... but it will definitely have less features than the 1000. Sounds cool though!!!
