decided to keep the 60

so i am keeping the mpc60 and just getting rid of the asr10.. but i want to start using the 60 with my computer.... what kind of computer setups do you guys have to compliment the 60.. things like the mpc software, if you chop on the computer then dump the samples into the 60,(i dont mind chopping on the mpc but it seems as though the software saves alot of time) what you use to chop, if your midi'd up with the computer, scsi devices..etc.. im not real knowledgeable when it comes to computers and midi and all that.. i do want to get a scsi card reader for the 60, which one do you guys recomend?? thanks in advance

Good decision. I use soundforge and recycle (mostly soundforge). Create my chops and export via mpc editor. That's about the extent of interaction between the 60 and the computer. The 60 is quite well-equipped midi-wise so u could def trigger sounds on your computer. I'm not that tech saavy either but if u want 2 rocc the 60, u either DIY or PAY - na' mean. honestly, yo -- you just got rid of one of the most well-equipped (vintage) samplers for chopping... and the 10 with the 60 is a match made in heaven.

from my own second hand experience, it's only a matter of time before you get bored with chopping on the computer. had many a friend sell their gear to use software only to end up rebuying that same gear.

The 60 is more work in comparison to software and the asr(I suppose since I haven't used it) as far as chopping but I like the fact that since you have to do everything by hand it kinda makes you think before you act. I don't chop unless the beat requires it because if it ain't right from the jump thats alotta work wasted.

i would love to keep both but one of them had to go because of financial reasons... and even though the asr is a very nice machine.. the mpc60 just seems more of an all around machine..

as far as getting bored...as long as i got some good samples i doubt ill get bored wtih sampling and chopping...i guess my true question would be what a good program for chopping on the computer then throwing the samples on a program in the mpc software..

word to that. nothing should be done without compromise whether it's looping or chopping. and i think that's something that has generally gotten lost with today's generation of producers & beatmakers. everyone wants to have a scientific method to how they work as opposed to an artistic one, and that's why there's no diversity in hip-hop these days. you got ten cats all relying on the same science to how they make beats. dudes coming into the production arena need to be told to concentrate on forming ideas instead of habits. chop, loop, whatever -- these are merely the means to an end. a good producer yields a good product regardless of the methodology.

a friend of mine sold his hardware a number of years back and has been using Acid (the program) ever since... his work is 100% sample based so it may be good for what you're doing as well. not sure about transferring the sample data back into the 60 though...

Good choice butcher. I'm hopefully getting a new computer soon I'm thinking of getting a card reader to go with it so I can chop on the computer too. Might be faster.
