"File Directory Full"????

I was making a track last night and when I went to save the PGM "File Directory Full" came up after a couple of sounds saved. My question relies in why this came up when I clearly have enough room on my compact flash which is 512MB.

I turned the 2000XL off and came back too it a few hours later and when I loaded the same PGM, all of the sounds didn't load up?

WTF?!?!?

Any input is greatly appreciated.......

Do you store every project in a separate directory ?

naw, that is the funny thing that I found strange. I don't store things in different folders/files on the disk I just save the programs straight to the disk(s)......

Well that's exactly the reason why you got this error. The file system (FAT16 if i'm not mistaken) that is used on the cf cards only has that many entries available for the root directory. If you store all your files on the root directory (don't make any sub directories) then that FAT table will get full and it will appear as if your disk is full despite the facxt that there is plenty of space left.

You just make a directory per project and store all files of that project in that directory. This will solve your out of space problem.

This was a common thing to happen on ms-dos computers back in the days where people would just put everything in the root dir and not make any subdirs and complain afterwards that the harddisk was immediately full, despite it being a 5Mb harddisk.
