SHOULD i even bother with mpc 1000 os ver 1? feedback pleas

aight i'm learnin my mpc 1000,, have read the manual but it seems i'ma have to attack it again cuz i didn't pick up much..

but at the same time i been doing my research and it seems its 2 different OS's available for it now.. ver 2.xx and that JJ os out there..

1. MY question is SHOULD i even bother to learn and master the mpc 1k wit the orignal s/w on it.. or should i jus UPGRADE it and focus on learnin new s/w?


2. I had read here its a way to boot up the new s/w on a cf card and that way i dont' even mess wit the os on my mpc? but i can't find that post on here or the internet? i tried the unofficial os 3 forum but no replies after a few days.. can any yall help?

Get the new os...trust me on this one.

1. the official updates from akai are there to adress errors of the original os, and as they always do, to add some features that didn´t exist in the first os, like support for bigger harddisk and some effects. to begin i´d suggest you upgrade to the latest official os. this os upgrades are free customer service.

2. the jj os is a inofficial os that reworked some of the screen layouts and some functions of the os , aswell added features that akai probably would not implement to keep the gap to the mpc 2500 a little bigger. this one is still a beta version (i must admit the official akai os are mostly some kind of beta till two years after a machine was first released). and it will cost 30$.

3. there is a way to boot your mpc directly into an os upgrade (which in fact is an os swap, because the whole os gets flashed everytime) so you can decide what os to use. this is somekind of risky because flashing an eeprom always can go wrong. then you must send your mpc to repair.

just keep on reading the manual while working on the machine, this way you´ll remember way more of it.

i were in the same situation, got my mpc six weeks ago.

I learned the basics on the old os, with the manual on my side. I had the new OS on my harddisk. After two or three weeks, when I understood how the MPC works, I switched.

Take your time with that man. But the JJ os rocks and it is definitely worth it !

comparatively speaking, the mpc used to be acid music 1.0

aight so for now i'm stickin wit the original os on it mainly cuz I have not figured out how to boot different OS's from the card.. i posted and got no replies.. i did searches but nothing came up?

is there not a safe way to boot an os from the cf card? that way the original os always stays on?

Or can i install the updated os's and is it always possible to revert back to the original os? (no real reason except maybe for nostalgia?)

I was jus confused cuz for example autonym in this post is sayin to upgrade.. but then you go read other posts wehre he tells people and HIGHLY recommends using the orginal OS ver..

and i was jus curious as to was i wastin my time in in tryin and learnin to make beats on the original os when apparently the updated one's make it better and easier?

as i stated in my post above you can boot your mpc in a special way (i think holding the window button, but better look it up once more, as i have a mpc 2500) to force it directly into an os upgrade. this way you can decide which os you want to use.
the os always gets flashed completely, so there is no way to keep the original os on the machine. it is possible to flash an older version over a newer version, some have done this to avoid new bugs that weren´t present in the old os.
regarding antonyms posts you can always assume that he is one of the members on this board who has the most knowledge about the mpc 1000. if he reccomended an official os you must look at the time of the post, most likely it is older than the new unofficial jj os, so he didn´t know of it then.

How to copy OS bin file to CF with MPC1000 and Computer
Required Equipment: Compact Flash (CF), USB mass storage class supported computer (Windows XP/ME/2000 or Mac OSX, OS9.x)
1. Download the MPC1000 OS from our website to your computer
2. Your browser should automatically unzip the file and you should have a file called MPC1000.BIN on your computer
3. Insert Compact Flash into MPC1000
4. Switch the MPC1000 on
5. Go Load mode, then press USB (F4)
6. Connect a USB cable between PC to MPC1000 (display will change from ‘Status=Not Connected’ to ‘Status=Connected’)
7. PC will mount the CF card of the MPC1000 as a drive on your computer
8. Copy (drag) OS .bin file on to the CF
9. Once the file has been copied, disconnect the USB cable

How to update MPC1000
1. Insert CF with OS data into MPC1000
2. Turn the power on while pressing down the WINDOW button
3. Press the REC button- the MPC1000 will start processing the update and will then re-boot automatically with the new OS

i have had an older version of the beta for 4 months now and have never had a freeze up or directory error. Plus, the features are the same AND there are some awesome new features. I don't care what anyone says about it being bootleg, that OS is stable as hell!!!
