what would the steps you all would take to make a beat...

I refuse to accept that we would all take the SAME EXACT steps and processes to make the beat.. but i don't know..

call me old school but have you made any money w beat making if so cool stay out to make the beat but if you have not ... you always have the samples loaded up in your mpc....( by school im assuming you are not in college if you are again a dif story ) but the beat can always be made go to school ...............now sorry for sounding like someones dad but keep them in your mpc.. chop inside of mpc.. depending on your os .. and build the drums from there resort to mac book for sprinkling finishing touches from gragebandor if you have access to reason

no doubt much respect yall on that.. its jus my school..ah main i'ma not get into it.. but those of you familiar with the city of chicago..well you know Bowen High School and it is what it is.. sometimes it not even worth it...

but as you can see i didn't skip skooL cuz even I know the importance of a high school diploma.. can't get nowwhere w/o that.. so i'ma stay on that school grind and yeah I didn't skip skooL (we off today) so we good...its my last year..

back to beats tho main...

I thought the hard part was the sample but I got it chopped up.. 4 bars at 81.5BMP man the tap tempo info in the book is useless pg. 16 all it says is WHAT tap tempo does BUT not how to use it..

but anyways i wanted to ask HOW do you approach yall drums? Man that sh*t is not easy... my ish dont' come out right.. I mean to me its aight but I play em to anyone else i can them coming back wit some "what the blood clot is this?" I means i want to learn on my own.. but i done put like 4 hours last night and like 3 the day before.. so i wreckonize i need some help..

Anybody got any pointers and info tips tricks on HOW to better my drums? yo i was desperate check it.. i tried listening to this joint by last emperor Heaven cuz it a slow song and tried "copyin" those drums.. but my ears and mind couldn't catch it like that..

I'd appreciate any and all help yall got., anything main...

I';m' lovin this ish tho... n i'm learnin to appreciate "dope" beat EVEN more now.. i mean i always had MAD love for the beat..the music but its LIKE now i see it beyond that and the "work" put in to make it waht it is...

lets do this main

peace up

p.s. Dam i forgot to mention this.. but uhm aight lets jus say I got ahold of another macbook pro 17" (same way as i got the 1st one, http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... highlight= ) aight this cat will pay me $800 cash for it.. but i got this other dude hollering at me on trade for a mbox 2 wit a a mpc pad for it... what would yall do if you was in my position? the 2nd macbook aint' come wit nothing no ac charger or nothing but it got bootcamp already on it.... let me know what yall think bout that..

It takes weeks to get the basics down, months to start making really innovative beats. Just keep at it. There's no better advice you can get than just don't stop doing it, and don't give up when you get frustrated. Because you will, trust me. I still do after working beatmaking and production for years.. Peace J.

i'm just confused as to what you are talking about.

even the replies don't make very much sense.

do everything in the MPC, if that is what you are asking.

chop that sample up into tiny little peices that you can match with a drum beat of your selected tempo. assign them to pads and play them in the way that sounds dopest to you.

what else are you wanting?

layer your drums, like put two or three snares on top of eachother all at different levels to get the sound you want. Where do you get your drums from? I would recommend vinyl over sample cd libraries

If it were me, i'd chop my samples in the mpc, the 20 second one i'd chop into as many pieces as possible and make a whole pad bank for it, then depending on how many pads are left in the bank (maybe none) i'd chop that sample again into quarters like 5 seconds each or maybe eighths like 2.5 each and fill up the other pads. Seconds doesnt matter really, but chop it into the 4 quarters or 8 eighths of the sample.
Another thing i like to do (and this would work best with the 4 second sample) is to chop it up into all its pieces, say it becomes 16 slices. Then assign all 16 of those to padbank A then Assign them all to Padbank B and again assign them all to Padbank C. On all the bank A samples use a lowpass filter on them and adjust it so you get mostly bass. on bank B use the bandpass filter and adjust it so you dont get too much bass or too much treble (the high frequencies). Then on Bank C use highpass and cut out all but mostly treble. Then you can make breaks or bridges or whatever, that only use certain frequency ranges of the sample, or you can decide to just use the high and middle (bandpassed) or just the high and low or whatever.
Theres a million different ways to utilize your samples too, sometimes you may want to put an envelope on them with a long attack or maybe have the filter have an envelope (press window when you have filter highlighted) Play with your filters and the envelopes! Hell you can even have the LFO modulate the evelopes and filters for interest.
Then after you f!ck with your samples and get something you are feeling, get some drums going, layer them up, especially if they feel dry or are missing something. I like to put a different snare/slap/snap/clap (also layer kicks and hats the snares are just an example) or whatever on each layer of a pad (sometimes i'll put a hat or something in there instead of one of the snares/claps/whatever) and then start filtering them to get them all to sit nice together and make a nice custom drum hit, using the high/low and especially bandpass filters.
You can sample your drums off CD's or records, take them out of sample libraries, download them, whatever, but as long as you layer them and filter them you are making your own drums and they should sound sick, because you have all the sonic control you need.
Another secret many producers use is to sample your drums, particularly kicks and snares, at a lower samplerate like 11khz (this is what gives the mpc60 and mpc3000 their crunchy drum sounds) I'll even do this to samples i already have by importing them into a sound editing program and just changing the sample rate (without anti-aliasing) and then normalize the sound (because often you get a lower volume after resampling to a lower rate) then resampling back to 44.1khz (which is what the mpc1k uses) Try it if you get a chance, or if you can find a sampler that samples at 11khz or even 8khz (for that nintendo bit feel) you can just use that to sample first then resample from it.
After you have your custom drums and your samples, start knocking a beat out around the sample, once other people start tapping their feet and nodding their heads you are pretty much on your way. Then add a bassline that sits behind the sample if you dont have enough bass, then you pretty much have the makings of a good beat.
I wont go into song mode or multi-tracking and editing on the computer in this post because thats a whole nother beast but in my opinion it is an integral part of making and finishing a song from a beat. (I prefer to see everything on the screen as far as waveforms and how those waveforms interact, also computers are nice for all the effects you can get, or synths you can use once you got stuff on the computer or chained via midi)
Hope this helps some my friend.
And serious, stay in school, learn how to write and communicate in an effective manner (not saying you dont, but none one is ever at a point where they cant get better, that goes for anything, be it beats, sports, math, pulling women or communication). But really I find that being able to communicate your ideas in words will help you in everything you do.
Thats my 2p

go outside... find two sticks and bang them together to make a rhythm, take it from there. in a little bit, yer gonna feel so wac for asking all that bullshit... just do you... if you really want someone to blueprint a creative process, why do you want to make music? you'll find a million people quick to brag about "their" way, but just take yer time and figure yours out. okay main.
