just trying to prepare a live set with alot of drum breaks which need to be muted and un-muted.

however, on many i'd like to be able to break down the breaks by say, knocking out the kick and hats.

is there any way to take apart a drum loop live by muting samples?

if your drumpart is programmed with individual samples (kick/hat/snare etc) just put each part on a different track and play with mutes. if you're using a solid drumloop (i.e. one single sample with everything in it) then you can't.

ok thanks but can i ask. my drum loops are made up of individual samples (kick, snare, hat, etc).

when recording a loop i 'play' the whole loop onto one track. this enables me to make many loops available with different drum sounds on different tracks.

then i can switch between them using track mute or even just flicking the 'program' over at certain stages of the loop.

so ideally i'd like to have been able to keep one track going, break it down by say pressing pads to mute certain samples then bring in again and then change track by switching to track mute (as opposed to sample mute).

as a latecomer to the mpc (primarily switched for live reasons) am i being a bit thick and maybe missing something

i could have snares, hats, etc moved onto different tracks but i usually spend alot of time just jamming out the beat. tracks would require me almost to work in a computer type way (tracks).

unless there is an 'explode' track option??????? (which would mean seperate each hit to individual track)

sorry for long post, just was bugging me last night. if no such thing is there any thing like this on other mpcs?

to do what you want to do you should better put each drumloop in its own sequence. Then you can "explode" the drum loop by using the command MOVE in step edit mode and selecting only a given pad (or a range of pads) in the appropriate field (look down left oin the STEP EDIT/MOVE screen). Of course this method will not allow you to have different drumloops playing together.
You can of course take advantage of the 64 tracks available to have a lot of "exploded" drumloops playing together, but muting/unmuting will be tricky if you have more than 16 tracks to control at once, or to control simultaneously e few tracks playing in different banks.
This of course does not prevent you to flip between programmes while sequencer is running.
