Midi cable for the mpc1000 and Sony Vaio

Hi, I'm not sure what cable I need to connect my mpc1000 to my Laptop in order to trigger Fruity Loops? I spoke w/ a guy at the Turntable lab, in NYC's East Village, and he thought I needed something in addition to the midi cable, but wasn't sure. Do I need a "special" midi cable b/c I have a Vaio? A Sound Card Midi Cable??, or do i need a cable and some sort of box to connect the two....I'm clueless, can someone let me know what I need or send me a link??

He probably means a serial port to midi cable.

I'd just get a usb midi interface. they are about as cheap now as the cable and give you more options.
