This MPC 500 is what I call portable...and it's battery or AC operated. It is even built better than the 1000. Reports are that the pad sensors are like the previous MPCs..and entire bank not individual pads that break.

They should be at your local Guitar Center as I type this. I plan on picking one up...just because.

But back to JJ...the MPC 500 is based on the 1000 stripped down. So it is possible JJ can hook that one up too. So you have the MPC 2500 for studio use, and the MPC 500 for portable use. The MPC 500 weighs practically nothing.

I got this info from an Akai/Numark employee. I was just about to head out the door and go pick up the MPC 500..but I will just wait. I have to see my son's report card first....but I may just jump the gun anyway just to play with it

but you cant ever replace the guts of the pads like the 1000...

The pad sensors of MPCs have practically held up for 20 years

With that being the case..why would one consider replacing the guts of anything

Aaah, it is what it is! Its like one of those Yamaha QY-70 machines without all the presets.

Are there any other more high end Akais coming out. Although, I think the 4000 is good enough!

The MPC 1000 is listed as $999, but you can get them for much less. The same will be true for the MPC 500.

As far as being a rip off? That is subjective. If you need/want it..buy it. If not, then don't.

Just got word from Japan...the MPC 500 is not available yet there...which is a big suprise since they are usually made in Asia.....

Soooo... I went to guitar Center today and saw the MPC500

If you have good resolustion on your creen(higher) the MPc500 is apporzimatly the same size. And about 2 inches thick. metal casing. and...

I wouldn't buy it... for $799

I would for $400/500
