Who is YOU ALL??

The best MPC is the one that works for you. Honestly, I think the MPC 3000 is the best MPC ever made and it doesn't have 10% of the functions these new MPCs have. The 2500 is the closest MPC to an MPC 3000, which is the reason why I choose that model.

I have owned an MPC 4000 and fully aware what it can and cannot do. But I switched back to the 3000. The 4000 didn't offer me anything I couldn't live without or didn't already have.

Be easy dude...you sound like me..catching feelings over a drum machine

J. you've got me laughing this morning. No hard feelings dude. I appreciate the info you guys bring to the table here. Of course I will admit that I don't know everything about an MPC, or a Kurzweil or Triton for that matter. But what I do know is that whatever piece of gear I choose to use, hopefully will bring the desired results that I'm looking for. I don't know a lot about the 2500 other than what I've been reading, but I'm eager and nosey enough to find out. I would like to know about the auto-loop features on the other mpc's & how they seem to compare. I personally use soundforge 8.0 for my loops then transfer them to the 4000. So far I've been getting some pretty decent results. Why do I like the 4000 so much? Because it's very computer friendly and I'm a computer kind of guy. Well I think I'll hang around here for a minute...I don't want to miss anything. You know what I mean?

And guest what...it's (the 4k) still at the top of the hill playa. Can't none of the other MPC's touch it. Apparently you don't own one...because if you did, you would'nt make such a statement. It's still king baby.

Try telling that to the rest of the MPC 4000 users in the forum that are crying for an OS update. Its a good machine...Akai's flagship MPC...but more doesn't always been best, especially if you don't use half of what it can do.

From what I can see a lot of folks do rely on these machines to handle most if not all of their audio editing needs. That's a good thing but...there are other alternatives though. Most of todays dance/rap music is centered around pieceing together "samples & loops", and this has become the defacto to a culture of enthusiasts that have only been around for a minute or two. And I give due credit to these folks for their contributions to the world of music itself, but until a lot of us understand the fundamentals to composing or music, we'll always find ourselves banging on some pads or keys and challenging others to these personal duels as to who has the best gear or whatever. What happen to the days of sharing musical ideas and such? So I do agree with you J...more does'nt always mean better. But I'd rather have something thats more capable of and not use it than something that can't do and find that I'm in need of. Just my $.02 worth. :)

Hmmm...what are you trying to imply or say here? Most of yesterdays dance/rap music is centered around the same things.....in terms of samples/loops.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm from two eras, before midi...where skill, articulation & theory got you by. And the aftermath, which was the introduction of midi in the late 70's/early 80's, that's when things began to materialize...if you know what I mean. This new protocol opened a whole lot of doors that I can personally say, I've seen blossom to where it is today. So I think I have the right to express a little history with those that choose to read and want to understand it. As a matter of fact, sampling was'nt much to talk about until Akai released the MPC 60. Then other companies jumped the band wagon, and the rest is history my friend. So there you have it. Oh btw, I've been at this since I was 11 or 12. I'm now approaching my mid 40's. (Ok, it's alright to call me gramps) :D

Well, I can't call your gramps..but maybe an older brother :D I am not so young myself...and have kids that are close in age than some of the forum members....

Well, the MPC 60 came out in 1987. But sampling (other forms of sampling) was around way before that. There were other tools and methods to sample before the 60. We could go back to the first commercially successful hip-hop/rap track which is a loop/sample. It wasn't done with an MPC..but it was still a sample. We can fastforward a few years just before the MPC 60 came out. The Beastie Boys first CD had a few samples..which dropped around 1986.

You're absolutely right "J". I meant to say that Akai hit the scene somewhere in the early to mid 80's. But also, somewhere around that time, Atari was laying the foundation to what is now known as "Pro-Tools". And they were the only players in the game back then. So thumbs up to a few of us "pioneers of electronic music". We've endured the agony of those early times. Now it's our time to shine...whenever that is. :)

Yeah...I remember those days. I couldn't afford shite as far as production gear. Hell, there was no local GC or anything around my way to even look at a keyboard or other musical instrument. I did have a turntable or two and a stereo receiver..and a crates of records. I thought I was the man in my hood.

Around that time, the Synsonic drums was poppin for aroun $120 at Sears. It only had 4 drums sounds...and 4 nice sized pads. Boom....kat....boom..kat..kat  My rhymes are composed of terms that expand...they amplify from the mic that's held in my right hand   I was like 13 or 14 thinking I was a young LL after watching Krush Groove :D

Memories....

Then the Dude up the block whose parents were well off bought dude turntables..mics...one of the early Roland TR drum machines...Man I was hating..basically because I could beat him in a battle..but he had production gear that he could put out his tapes...but he never did

I would give anything to go back in time knowing what I know now.
