Beat matching...

How do you, as a producer, match your beats together on an MPC1000?
It's easy enough to trim the sample to fit the bar structure, anyone can do that...but what do you find is the most efficient methods to take those tricky jazz beats and percussion loops, and put them over top of your drum sequences so they sound flawless?

i found myself in your position not too long ago. the key to everything is the "tap tempo" button. If you physically tap the "tap tempo" button like, "1-2-3-4...", you should find that you can get pretty close to the sample's original BPM. Note: after the "tap tempo" button automatically changes your sequence's BPM, you should manually check the tempo, I usually end up somewhere within .01-2.0 BPM (+/-) either direction.

If you're striving to make your beats sound more coherent, this should help significantly. if it doesn't, what doesn't kill us only makes us better beatmakers, right?

P.S. changing the intervals you're counting by may actually help as well, instead of counting your sample on straight 1/8 notes, consider 1/16 notes, 1/32 notes, etc.

Jazz music consists of some pretty complex time signatures, but you can figure it out. Just struggle with it for a little bit.

One way is to change the pitch! While listening to beat change the pitch of your sample and listen when it fits! You can do that because every loop has a BPM and your beat has a BPM too! Just fit them together!
