another fabulous day as an mpc user

Well , i think i can now claim i had every bug that was ever posted on the mpc2500.
This evening i was making a drum 'n bass tune and along the way i decided to save it , so i try to create a folder and there we go.
Mpc hangs.
Restart , i still had the synth line (most emportant part) in my head.
Luckily i could play the entire synth-line like it was before so i think , let's save it first , create folder.
Mpc hangs.
Ok , restart , go direct to save , create folder
Mpc hangs.
What gives.

hmm , seems to be just my harddrive.
I think i'm going to try and defragment it or check for errors.

If you are using 1.22 it will probably keep happening! I just reinstalled 1.21 because my MPC froze after i had finished a song with a crazy guitar solo, and a bunch of guitar riffs that I had directly recorded. I think it has something to do with creating new folder with the memory card in the slot or something because that when it kept happening. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is but I know that on 1.21 I have no problems.

I went back to 1.21 a while ago because i had problems with my pads triggering all sorts of things every now and then.
so this create folder problem happened with 1.21.
I installed 1.22 now and i backed up and formatted my harddrive.
I just hope it's the harddrive getting a little cluttered and a backup + format once in a while will keep this from happening.
Oh yeah , and i do remember having a CF-card in the slot when this happened , have to do some testing on that.

This only seems to happen to me when I record my samples directly into the mpc...I have lost 2 songs this way and 2 files that were just corupt the next time i went to open them it read $%^(&$(&%).....what gives?

This was a very common error and seem to still be. Its how you save your projects.

Its how you save which eventually will happen if you dont do it correctly.

Create the folder first then save entire memory(project) to that folder meaning every beat should be created in its own file as a project.

Save your creations as a project and you will never have this problem even when you add stuff and resave.

Different errors messages come up surrounding this along with freezing.
Do a search and all can be explained in other threads regarding this.

Now this one here is strange and need to be looked into further. Still try doing what I suggested it may solve your problem also. But I know your no rookie ZAM so excuse me if you already do this.

Mabe but that should not be the case. Ive experiance that before. No way in h3ll your hard drive should be getting corrupt after a few months. Mabe my way is not the solution but since Ive been doing it Ive had no errors like that. Ive had my hard drive in for months and had to format my drive once because of something I did.

A defrag tool would be lovely though.

None the less I wish you luck I just think its a user error.

YOu know what I,m positive thats the answer because many had this error before including me. Do me me a favor and just try it for a while and see if you continue getting the error.

I cant force you but thats it. Akai has not perfected that function in these machines yet. Only via creating folder first and saving entire memory can you avoid these errors. It has been written...Do a search if you dont believe me.

But again thats the last I have to say on it. Seriously, Good luck.

Well , the way i allways save is ,
1 create folder
2 save entire memory into the folder

When i work on a previously saved song and want to save it ,
1 delete the folder
2 create new folder
3 save entire memory to folder

That's basically how you save too , right?

I started doing this on my mpc1000 for the same reason and have been saving this way ever since.
