I got a used mpc1000 and the CF drive doesn't work. When I insert a CF card the mpc screen just goes blank. I tried turning it off and loading it with the card in and same result. Is there a easy way to replace the actual CF drive? Akai said it would run probably about 100 bucks to replace the drive. Most likely I will just return the MPC but wanted to know if there is a quick fix so I don't have to buy another one.

i guess it depends on how good of a deal you got..you said you bought it used right ?? either upgrade to a NEW one or for the 100 bucks i would say dont use it anymore and get the hard drive mounting kit $25 and a laptop hard drive $70 for the same money.. 80 gigs worth of space.. and you dont have to buy cards.. for transferring files use USB to pc.

return the mpc and get another one. don't deal with warranty and repair issues if you don't have to.

Is there a tutorial on how to install the hard drive? Also, by doing this, can I also upgrade the OS on the mpc?

I'm with distortedtekno on this one. If you have an option to return the MPC because it's broken, you should do that.

Yes, you can work around the broken CF slot by installing a hard drive, but why should you have to, if you can return the 1K and wait just a bit longer for another one to turn up that works.

like i said "i guess it depends on how good of a deal you got..".. obviously the right thing is to get another one.. some times the "other" used ones are worse off that the first or if the price was TOO good to pass up.. thats all i was stating..

I had the same problem! I contacted VST services and they told me the same thing about those 100$ costs! I live in a country where we don't have AKAIPRO services so I took my MPC to YAMAHA service and after few days I recived a call that everything is working properly! And I payed for it 40$! I was really surprised :) But if the problem is more serious and you have to spend 100$ then do like you have been told - buy an adapter kit and a laptop HD! 80GB hard drive will be enough for some long long time!
