is it possible to direct record 2 mono tracks.... for instance 1 instrumental from vinyl on the left channel and a mic on the right channel... and if so how does this work?

if the 1k has split sterio to mono option then YES!

once the sterio recording is in ram just split it to two monos... vanilla

I was just thinking the same thing. The stereo/mono split is available in the new trim mode of the JJ OS.

correct me if I'm wrong but on the direct record tracks you can choose stereo, L mono, or R mono, so no need to go into trim to split the channels. It's all on the main screen, as well as effects.

Just dont forget to hit overdub while direct recording or else you won't hear your sequence play, just what you are direct recording. Direct record also saves all your takes as well. If you highlight the take number and press window you can manage your takes - choosing and deleting ones you don't want.
