Hello everyone.

Just a quick question, I have just received an effects board from ebay second hand, I've yet to install it as I'm at work. Looking at it I can't see any sign that it is made by akai the only brand I can see is NEC.

Does anyone know of third party manufacturers that create an effects board for the mpc 2000?

Could be that NEC were the manufacturers and Akai have just tagged it up as their own?

all is well, Installed and working, Just wierd that the card shows no sign of either akai or eb-16, ahwell it works regardless.

How much did you pay for it? I'm thinking about copping it because I'm tired of having to record into sound forge, edit, then load into the MPC. I'm really curious of the quality too if it's even worth getting or just stay using the software

Many different people made components on the card so you probably won't see a all in one tag that says Akai. Doesn't matter, you have it installed and working fine, now get busy and make beats homie..

Rondu, I got it for £145 off ebay and I haven't had an opportunity to play with it yet. I heard the effects aren't that great the main reason I got it was for EQ and the filters, If I had the dough I think I would get a digi 002 rack and sync up 8 ous etc, and use the eq and effects etc in pro tools, at the mo I record low budget straight to minidisc, you get pretty good quality but its one shot if you know what I mean, no editing. real low budget ish. One day tho ...................

I was really Jammy and got one for £99 from Dawsons on clearance. I was reluctant to pay full whack as I was told the quality of most of the effects was really poor but I have to say not only are they really flexible and creative but have a particular sound which I really like, not to mention the stand alone factor. The filters are actually pretty much like EQ though and the next best investment is an MFC 42 at £145 from Turnkey....WICKID!!!!! REEAL analog filters and phaser + distortion. A MUST have.

I do not know of a single IC that Akai ever made. AFAIK, every circuit component in the MPC is off-the-shelf (except for the circuit board of course). You would be surprised at what other technologies the same parts are used in.

Something like when it was said that Playstation 2 components were also used as missile components, the reasonn why SONY didn't wanna release the PS2 in China but eventualy did.
