Installing SIMMS....want to be careful

After 3 years of having my MPC2000 I'm finally going to take the cover off and install the SIMMS. (Never had a need to,already have an S3000XL). Is there anything beyond what the manual says that I should know? I've been studying my manual while I'm waiting for my 72pin SIMMS. Once the cover is off the manual mentions removing the line connected to the CPU from the foundation. Is this a complicated task? Any feedback would be appreciated.

For one, make sure your ish is disconnected and secondly and HIGHLY important DISCHARGE YOURSELF OF ANY STATIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am assumming you mean touching a piece of metal (such as the MPC cover) before installing the SIMMS. (after unplugging the unit, of course). Any knowledge on disconnecting the CPU line? I read an old post about one of the members almost tearing it. Is there a risk of tearing while simply removing the covering? Can someone help me get deeper?

cpu line on an mpc?? I dont know man all you have to do is fit the memory in thats all. Touch a metal and just keep yourself with the metal all the time just to make sure yu dont have static.

oh one thing, that shit is upside down so you dont have to even open the top part, just flip it up and open the bottom part and youre there.

Ps : I could be wrong about it being upside down. mpc2000xl's are like that so Im just assuming its the same way

Got the SIMMS today. Installation on the classic MPC2000 is right side up (vs. upside down on the MPC2000xl) involving first: the removal of the front panel shielding the disc drive, then the cover, and carefully raising the operation panel (after loosening even more screws)making sure not to tear the line to the CPU. When you lift the operation panel you can see the SIMM slots (2 of them) right in the front. If you have a set of extra hands and don't want to disconnect the CPU line have a friend carefully hold up the operation board while you insert the SIMMS making sure not to damage the CPU line. As it was suggested by shyda & beets ground yourself by touching your MPC cover before handling your 72 pin 16MB SIMMS. (If you're concerned about the reliability of the SIMMS ex) ebay, go ahead and buy them online from www.sweetwater.com. They've been dealing w/industry pros for years and will give you the reliable gear. No worrying about if you've been ganked. NEXT- alternate pushing back those little pain in the ass metal clips that hold each SIMM in place and insert your SIMMS. They should be standing up in place. Reassemble with care. Turn on your MPC and go into the sample menu (shift+4). Initiate the Open Window button and check to see that the correct number of MB's are installed.

I didn't tear the CPU line and all was successful. Thanks for your responses shyda & beets. I'm new to the post and have seen a couple good MPC2000 posts come and go over the years. I don't know how many who posts their soundclicks feel about funk tracks and experimentation,but I'll post some soundclick links soon. I've probably heard all the links to those who have posted mp3 links of their material. And, it's good to see all levels of development and expression. Keep encouraging each other.
