Looking to hook up a turntalbe to mpc

i have an mpc 1000.
and im am looking to hook up a turntable to it so i can sample..
anyone have any suggestions on some cheap turntables that would serve me good.. or where i can get em.. thanks... holla

There a two ways you can do this. You can buy a mixer and a turntable, and plug in the turntable to the mixer and the mixer into your MPC 1000. Or, you can buy a turntable WITH a preamp, and plug that into your MPC 1000. If you are planning on doing any scratching though, it's pretty essential to get the mixer as well. The industry standards for nice turntables are Technics and Vestax, both of which are expensive, and then from there I'd look at Stanton or Numarx. The more you invest, the better quality your samples are going to be IMHO, especially make sure you don't get a cheap turntable with shitty preamps. I'd say you're looking at spending about $400-500 either w/ mixer or w/o for some pretty quality shit, but who knows, it's not the equpitment it's the person w/ the equiptment. Hope this helps.

The mixer allows you to do alot more advanced scratching techniques. You could do some basic scratching without a mixer, but for most techniques, you would need a mixer. Otherwise, if you're not intending on scratching at all (I don't, it **** up the records you're using for samples!), you wouldn't need a mixer if you got a turntable WITH a preamp. I have a Vestax BDT-2500 turntable ($400) because I have alot of rare records which alot of turntables don't play at, and this lets me play from 16-98rpms). This turntable has a preamp inside it, so it doesn't need a mixer, and furthermore couldn't use one for scratching, since it's belt drive and not direct drive. All scratching is done on direct drive turntables.

I figure the less stripped down and basic it is, the better the preamps are going to be and the better the basics are. That's just me though. That other mixer will work as well.

...which would be better for me?..all i want is to sample and just get sound from records...maybe some eq options also..im getting my mpc tomorrow and i dont know how good the eq's are on the mpc 1000. any opinion/help will help me alot thanks.

Yeah actually I'd probobly get the one you showed me because of the bass, midrange, and trebble. I just showed you the stanton one more for the example then the product itself (I've never used it).

That Yamaha mixer might not be the best idea, because it doesn't have a phono input, so you'd still need a phono preamp. I'd suggest getting any cheap/simple DJ mixer, and a cable with some adaptors to take phono outs on the mixer into the 1/4 inch inputs on the MPC.

AFAIK, A phono preamp does two things: It boosts the signal level, and it changes the EQ on the track. Vinyl records are always cut with very thin bass (because big bass vibrations would make the grooves too wide) and the EQ in the preamp puts it back - if you plug the output from a turntable into a microphone preamp (which doesn't have the EQ), it will sound really thin and weedy.
