Drum n Bass

Anybody use there mpc to make drum and bass tracks? If so how do you go about makeing them and do you use only your mpc or do you use computer software aswell?

i have done......and you dont need a pc for it....

its the same as doing any genre- make sure you sounds, tempo and groove are right and then write your pattern.....

noooooooooo! that break must be the most overused break in music.....by all means get it, an listen but if you use it you'll immediately date your music...

I would have to say too that break is abused to isht! You can pretty much take any in drum loop with out a swing and transform it into jungle or DNB. As suggestion I would also say to chop the loop to get your own drum pattern. Allot of cats are just taken a loop speeding it up and playing a melody over the top. That's cool and all but it's sound reptative and doesn't show an creativity. I hope I didn't affend anyone.

the amen is off the chain... you can chop it for ever... tightest break ever... but anyways if you into like steppin ass dnb you can just use one hits... all on the mpc ...

Obviosly the amen is the break most widely used in jungle, being that jungle derived from that one break.

There is a break called the sniper it has the same rythmic structure as the amen but recorded in a different manner. That is the break alot of the newskool artist are using. Alot of people mistake the sniper for the amen.

I have only been producing jungle on my mpc for about 9 months now, but I think I am getting a hang of it. I record all my tracks onto a dat recorder, so once I figure out how to get my tracks onto a computer I will post them.

Well you sample and sequence on the mpc with no problem. You will need some way of proccessing you breaks, rather it is done with hardware or software.

about half the tracks I have made lately are drum n bass.

What I like to do, is creat a very fat lo-fi hip-hop beat, and then crank up the tempo. Now, one I have the basic groove, I will layer down heavy bass kicks at the start of each bar, and then wherever needed in between.

Now that I have come this far, sequence some dirty bass lines from the microkorg, and throw in those badd ass sound effects, and sometimes my own vocal samples. I love recording off the wall sounds via mic for this type of music. Just record a sound, throw down the pitch, and layer it in there with the bass!

Quantize up your beat with some hand sequenced snares, and HH and you are good!

I'm begining to like this thread more and more. I've been making downtempo beats along with some DNB in between my hip hop times. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on compression, eq'n, etc... making these genres? For instance I use recycle sometimes to speed up or slowdown the loop and chop.

You can jack a lot of the more popular D&B breaks off here. Get some of the "jungle tools" records also. You can find classic and over used samples on there. Chop the hell out of 2 or 3 breaks you like and get some one shot drum sounds you like and program the hell out it. Programming your ghost hits will take a little while to get that "shake" in your sound, but a little practice and your straight.

there are a couple of good kits in tutors packs ive been layering recently- i think they come from the tripped out range but there was a nice matched jazyy dnb kit....ive been layering that one with thicker matched kits and getting some real good sounds....

Yeah the "Sniper" more commonly known as the "Firefight" or "Tramen" does actually contain an amen. It's just an amen with the rides from James Brown " Tighen Up" break.
