MPC Trouble (CPU Address Error!) I Need Help!

Hi, I'm new to MPC's and I've just bought an MPC 1000 second hand from ebay. I've owned loads of other groove boxes and samplers and am pretty experienced with music technology but I've got a problem here and I'm stumped. I have the old style (blue and red) MPC 1000. I'm not sure how old it is.
The problem is that its playing random sounds when I'm not hitting any pads and the sequencer is stopped. Its like the MPC has tourette's. It does this for a while and then crashes with a message on the LCD that reads like this.

After that there's a load of eight digit letters and numbers as well but thats the jist of the message. Then I have to restart the MPC and after a while the same thing happens again.
The MPC worked fine for the first few hours of use and I updated the RAM to 128meg put a 1gig CM card into it and updated the O/S to 2.10. Then the trouble started and I tried O/S 1.7 and 3.05 with no luck then removed the RAM and put the original 32 meg CM card back in. At the moment its on O/S 2.10 with no extra RAM and the original CM card and I'm still having problems.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or has anyone any experience of this and know what it is and how to remedy it? Any help would be greatfully recieved as I'm not to sure if I can get a refund.
Also I live in England, has anyone had any experience of Akai's customer survice in the UK, and do you think that they would fix it if it came to that?

It sounds to me that some of your pads are shot. It was discussed before that the pad issue gets worse when the unit is warmed up (something to do with the glue is getting soft). I assume that all that triggering is freaking out the CPU.

There is a description on the forum how to disassemble the unit and disconnect the pads. I would try that first and see if the problem still remains or vanished.

Interesting, that does make a lot of sense. I've only just started reading up on the pad issues with the older MPC1000's. The unit that I have bought was an ex demo model which although in very good cosmetic condition could have had a fair amount of use in the shop I got it from. Although I'm not sure as they won't answer my emails.
Out of interest how long does it normally take for MPC1000's to develope pad issues.

try reinstalling the operating system. i don't think loose pads are what is causing the cpu to "freak out"

I have a used 1k and it used to play "ghost sounds too", that was attributed to faulty pads. however while yer techinical difficulty does affect yer pads and may- as a consequence play ghost sounds, it seems much more likely that it is an issue with yer os. or even the actual mechanical hardware may be faulty... frequent crashing is begging for yer machine to have a seisure and fry. you should have it serviced unless you are sure you know what yer doing while tinkering... hope you have warranty.

HAHA. I bet you can make some sick ass beats with that MPC.

I know that I will leave my MPC on over night to see if it develops issues. I have still a week left to return it.
