Does anyone think that the 4000 will replace the 3000 as the machine to have? I remember having a Mpc 2000,and all I wanted was a 3000. That was only because all of the big boys was using them. I then upgraded to the 2000XL,and I was satisfied for a minute. I set my sights once again on a 3000,but the high price was still a problem. I bought a fully upgraded Mpc 60,and still wasnt quite satisfied. But when the 4000 came out that was it for me. I jumped on one as soon as I could. I havent been this happy since I got my first 2000.

I have to agree, although I want MPC 60, I wouldnt trade the 4k for nothing.

60 was cool but outdated i sold mine in june. the sp1200 was great but outdated i sold mine in june,, i bought the 4000 in july...it is a new era and the only way we will break new ground is with new tools and the 4000 is the best to me. it could use a few things but im sure we will se alot coming soon....audition from disk, burn CD's for real, more FX presets (better ones)..everything in 1.51 works flawless, it loads faster than any of my other samples/keyboard workstations and aksys is great in osx so what else??? Go Buy one if you don't have it and stop askin us users stupid ?'s all day..just trust and spend your loot!!

Be easy. I dont think you read my post. I have one,and I've had it for the past year and a half. I was just seeing if others feel the same way I do. We are both here in NC,and maybe we'll do business one day. I'm also from NY,but by way of the Bronx. Thanks for the reply though.

How do you guys rate the sound of the 4k compared to your past machines?

like some of you say you had SP 1200, MPC 3000, etc.

whats the 4k sound for you?

Well its night and day diffrence, the 24 bit sampling is crazy. But you can scale down if you want the 3000 grit!! The 4000 is the best of both worlds.

"the 24 bit is crazy" So i take it your sampling live drums voices or type sounds cause it makes no point t0 sample at 24 bit if the source is only 16 bit. but i am askin you a question not questioning your answer/

Yes drums, and voices.
But even when you sample a 16 bit sound, it records it at 96kz. Its a better recroding of the sound. Any way you look at it its a win win situation.
There is a diffrenc e when you sample ANYTHING at 24bit.
Check it out.

The process that an A/D converter uses to capture an analog signal is called sampling. Sampling is like taking a snapshot of the sound wave. This creates a stepped representation of the electrical signal. When computers digitize sound, the computer takes snapshots of the sound at fixed points. A digitized version of the above wave might look something like this:
While the shape is similar to the analog wave, they are not exactly the same. The more often that the computer takes those pictures of the sound, the closer to the original it will sound. The number of times per second that a computer takes that snapshot is refereed to as the "Sampling Rate ". The higher the sampling rate, the more samples taken per second. There are many different common sampling rates that you might see:
44.1 kHz = 44,100 Samples per second - This is the standard for CD's
48 kHz
88.2 kHz
96 kHz

Bit Depth
The other aspect of how computers digitize the audio is the "resolution" or "bit rate"..The resolution of a sample represents its dynamic range, or levels of volume. The higher the resolution, the greater the dynamic range; and the lower the resolution, the less the dynamic range. For example, a 1-bit system can only represent two levels of volume - off or on (0 or 1). A 2-bit system can represent four levels of volume - off, soft, medium or loud (00, 01, 10, 11). A typical resolution is 16-bit, which is the resolution used for Audio CDs. A 16-bit resolution can represent 65,536 (or 96 dB) levels of dynamic range. A 32-bit system can represent 1,048,576 (or 192 dB) levels of dynamic range. That is over one million levels of dynamic range!

Just a little something to show the diffrence between the to, a 24 bit sample will make anything sound a louder because of the snapshots of the sound takin. Even if your sampling from a 16bit sound to 24bit.

not to say this in a disrespectful way, but when I read this, "gear whore" came to mind. It's not the machine in front of the man, but the man in front of the machine that is making the difference.

I don't know man, but haven't real instruments been around for centuries and they continue to break new ground.

True.... old instruments do the same but only peak interest with new ways to do it...the 4000 is really a simple machine if you look at it...but as a new tool it allows you to sample & twist those old intruments into whatever you dream of making!! that's what gets me motivated....not being a gear whore but pimpin the gear we own into making do what we want!!!

Got both...Still use the 2000xl for about all of my sequencing. Should really sell the 4000. The 3000 just can't cut it with 1 program.
