man for some reason everydamn time im building something and i try to load it from the harddrive i swear i get WRONG FILE! Is it really the way i save or what, cause it is really killing me.I have like 3 diff programs and 3 diff sequences i made last week and all programs/samples will load but every sequence when i try to load from hd will state wrong file! all samples play fine when previewed is it the way i name them, if a program and a sequence have the same name will it effect it? even if i rename one of the files it will say wrong file! after i press load from hd.
im saving to internal hard drive toshiba 80gig, forgot model #.

man any help will be great other than rtfm! unless i am missing something
the thing that trrips me out is it will load like a day 2 days after but i haven't powered up for like 4 days and now i get wrong file! AAAAHHHHHH shiet damnmnet
aight i gotta go to sleep for a min ill check back in a couple of hours
Peace.

You can also try backing up all the files to your pc , update your os and format your mpc harddrive (with the mpc offcourse , not with the pc).
Greetz...

One more time for all you that are too lazy to do a search.

Always make a new folder before starting to work . Always save to a new folder and NEVER overwrite any old files contents......If you just made a minor change to a program or added some new samples to it ,Save to a new folder This can corupt a file....If you made changes to Seq. data Save to a new folder.....Pretty much if you set your root folder up and have a separate folder for each song with all it's programs in another folder in it or all the programs in there own folders it seems to do the trick ..Back up after every session to keep things up to date ...***always save the previous folder until you load the new folder to make sure your not corupted. Save to the CF card and back up from a card reader to your Pc. Reformat card and hard drive often if you save to them often. I have been using the Hard Drive as storage for PGMs and samples only and don't save any work to it cause a lot of stuff was getting corupted not wrong file error but corrupt message with strange characters showing for the name of the file that wont ever load again....Hope this helps .

Using the save entire memory function to a new folder has never failed me. Damn, I just realized that my MPC 2500 is no longer under warranty...damn this year went by quickly...

I'm having pretty much the same problem. I'm trying to convert my MPC2000XL zip files to load into my MPC2500. I bought Translator and have transferred the files to the compact flash card but, it starts to load then gives an error message that says "wrong file". Does anybody know how to rectify this problem? I've tried searching the forum already.I have not found the answer.

This is the answer right here, Did you miss it? As far as fixing that file, you cant, you can only prevent from doing it again by doing the above. :?

yup. don't overwrite project or all files and you're good. it seems you can overwrite samples and pgms without getting the Directory Error (seems to be the center of all saving/data corruption issues).

well. I have been saving all pgms and samples to new folder, then saving the seq to that folder.........and on load up the pgms dont load right and i have to manually load up each sample..................So dont use this method.

Im gonna try jahromes method.
