Piece of crap

The MPC 500 must be a joke.. I can't believe Akai would release such a piece of crap considering you can get a 1000 for just $200 more and get a ton of features not included on the 500... Akai really outdone themselves this time releasing something so damn useless... If you have a tight budget the MPC 1000 is a sure bet with all the essential features of an MPC at an affordable price... if you got some cash to drop, gotta just go with the MPC 4000, anything in between and its not worth it... If you really think about it, the 4000 is the only MPC that you can sample 24 bit at 96k, while the others are limited to 16 bit 44.1k audio, including the MPC 2500.... just my opinion

well keep in mind that these are "budget" machines and arent professional like the 2500 and the 2000xl, they are just toys in comparison to the bigger models

Doesn't it still say "Akai professional" on the 500?Then why would you consider it a toy? If you feel that the 500 is a "toy" then I wonder how you feel about the "bigger mpc's"?

If you compare an operator swicthboard with a cellphone, is the cellphone a toy? I don't think so. It may not have the same functions as the swicthboard,but it is certainly not a toy.Just portable and smaller. The same concept applies to the 500.

I actually own the 1000... if I was to upgrade I would only go for the 4000 because anything in between is a waste of money considering I can do everything on the 1000 in conjuction with Pro Tools. Since all the other MPC's sample at 16 bit 44.1k, except the 4000(24 bit 96k), there really is no point of paying more money for the same sound quality and just a few extra features that I can hit up in Pro Tools.

i agree im tired of ppl comparing these things to "toys". Dont think for one minute akai is releasing these machines for ppl to think they are toys.

there you said it ! thas exactly what im doin , upgrading to 4k i wouldnt by anythin other than that.........

Theres nothing stopping anyone from making a masterpeice on the 500.

sarcasm buddy, i dont remember having $1000 toys when i grew up

Man, that's a lot of heat towards the 500.

I get what the starter of this thread was trying to say. And he does have a point tho. But from what i can see the people that are interested in buying the 500 are people that have been making beats for a long time and have been waiting for something like this to come along. And for those long trips it helps alot too. Since they are cutting back on what you can take on planes now. It actually makes sense if your gonna actually use it.

But i'm pretty sure that some people are gonna get it because its a MPC or because its something new.

I would buy it, but not now, though. And not for that price. It'll just be my bs mpc i throw around, use it as a doorstop and a paper-weight and step on it for when i can't reach something up high.
