MIDI Controller w/MPC 1000

i searched and couldnt find anything but....

hey if i have a midi controller hooked up to my midi, can i load up a sound sample and just play it on my midi controller keyboard? I think that will be cool, if i could just lay down the drums using the pads and then on a a different track just play the piano notes on the keyboard cuz i'm familiar with the keys...is this possible?

Not unless you make a program specifically to do this (multisampling)

I have heard from a couple people that you can trigger the sounds in the mpc1000 on a keyboard..
can someone that has done this confirm....thanks alot

You can, just not chromatically (one sound across all keys) unless you have a program with the same sound on each pad tuned like keys.

CAN YOU GO IN 16 MODE AND PLAY THE 16 ON A MIDI KEYBOARD
OR DO YOU HAVE TO SEND EACH SOUND TO EACH KEY ON THE KEYBOARD MANUALLY

No, this is fine, as long as you don't mind programming each pad individually. I'm doing this for Mellotron sounds, and it sounds really real. It responds to velocity, but not aftertouch or pitchbend.

Don't worry about figuring out which pad matches which MIDI note, just hit a key to select the correct pad, then assign the sample(s).
Don't forget to set "Note On" mode for each pad, so that it cuts off when you release the key.

It's a bit laborious, but gets easier if you re-use programs (to avoid setting Note On each time. I should upload some of my programs with links to the sample sources.

that's cool! cuz i was used to using fruityloops with my Midi Controller and I make a basic beat on FL, then on a seperate channel load up a PIANO or something and just play it on the keyboard, but now that i have an MPC i want to be able to do the same thing.........what the hell is AUTOCHROMATIC? Sorry i'm a newbie on MPC. But I hope I could use the MIDI controlller with the MPC tho.

The MPC is my only sampler, so I'm not sure, but I think it's based on info in the WAV files. a WAV file has parameters for loop points and "base tuning", a field that says "I'm a Bb4" or whatever.
I suspect an autochromatic function on other samplers loads and assigns a bunch of samples across the keyboard range, and fills in the gaps between samples using the sample range function (which the MPC1000 also doesn't have.) It's not multi-timbral via MIDI, however, you can only play a single selected program live from an external source - but I don't mind, you can still use MIDI to build up sequence tracks one at a time.

Does the 1000 have release on the envelopes?

No. release velocity can't effect decay. Think of it like a drum...once you hit the thing that's it....nothing you can do to change it.

Not release velocity, but a release envelope, let go of a key and the fade out begins.

The only thing I can think of is using loop points, with decay mode at END. depends on your sample though...
