just got an asr-88 can't any sound out of it.

so I just picked up an asr-88 at gutiar center yesterday and I can't figure out how to get any sort of sound out of it.I'ev been reading the manual for a weeks before I picked it up , so I feel that I know the basics(I do understand that it doesn't come with any sounds!).

I haven't heard a single sound out of this machine, feel I'ev tried every thing I can think of, I pluged in my turntables and I do get the source input lights blinking, but when I press the source monitor button I don't hear any thing. also when I recored a secquence I'm not hearing the meteronome. I'ev tried a keyboard amp , a home stereo, and the head phone jack. i'ev checked and double checked my connections one some O-C-D ish.

if anyone knows of some thing else I shoud try , or if I over looked some thing. I would be greatfull, I really don't want to have to take this thing back I'ev been looking for out side of ebay for a long time.

I hope its some thing on my part.

the OS disc has a few patches on it.load one if that dont work it must be busted

no instrument or bank files,are on my os disk.

Here's a dumb question, you do understand what the yellow and red LEDs mean right?

Try this: http://www.emu.com/support/files/download2.asp?Centric=687&Legacy=1&Platform=1, Go for the complete version in the middle. I'm currently using that version myself. I know it has the slap bass, acoustic bass & maybe some other sounds on it.

Make sure "LOCAL" control is "ON".......

Wait I take that back, you haven't even gotten to the point where that would make a difference.

That right there says plain and simple either you don't have your cables correct or the unit is broke.
I would also think you meant that you hooked a mixer to the ASR not the TT directly unless it was a TT with a built in pre amp, even then it wouldn't be to the RCA jacks.
If you can't hear the sample signal with source monitor or hear a click for the seq, you probably don't even have the inputs and outputs wired correctly.

yeah I got my turntables hooked up from my mixer to the asr, the audio input lights blink when I play something (green with a little bit of red). now when I press the source monitor button(left , right or L+R) I don't hear a thing out of my keyboard amp or the headphones.

I went to "examine analog inputs" and make sure my volume slider was working, and that checks out.







Something sounds really wrong here.

true but how do i find out if its user error or the asr

How can you record a sequence with no sounds loaded or midi implemented?well I know it is getting audio input, so I assign what ever sound I record to a key, and try and start recording a sequence.

Are you sure your joint works at all?
I'm really am starting to think that none of the audio outs work on this thing.

You stated you have incoming sound. Have you assigned this to any of the instrument/sequence tracks 1 thru 8? If not, you won't hear anything of course.

yeah that was one of the first things I tried.


I do over the phone pc tech support for a living. man I know how important it is to know what you're buying before hand. but in this case I can't continue any further unless I know that whats going on is unusual or not.

this isn't my first/only piece of equipment, so I can do some thing as basic as plug in a keyboard to some speakers.

If I were you I'd take it back to guitar center and ask em to show you that the thing works if not, refund you.

yeah I took it back yesterday.

we didn't even have to plug it in I told them the same thing I told you guys. showed them where I had my inputs and amps plugged in, what buttons I pushed. all they could say was " !! we normaly check that stuff before hand, sorry about that." gave me my money back that was it.
