grid edit's usefulness

yo, was just wondering how useful you guys actually find grid edit?

I mean, when i'm recording drums, i record all my snares on track one, kicks on track 2 and hats on track three. But then how can i look at them all in grid mode that way?

So the way i'm trying to do it now is to do it all in one track, but for now i'm finding that a bit tedious.

What do you think?

A grid edit where you could show multiple tracks would be nice mayb?

keep all your drums on one track. i find this huuuugely valuable and much better than viewing everything in its own track. i used to do it that way too and i will never go back.

this enables you to see more at one time and their relationship with one another. it quickly sharpens your sense of swing and offsetting drums. it also helps you read drums and better. the result is a more lively and nuanced performance.

believe me - it's worth it. all i want is for the 6 pad grid screen to small up topwise a little bit so it can be 8 pad grid screen. we don't need bigger boxes, we'd rather have more pads visible, esp a clean 8.

I personally dont use the grid edit often, i dont on the 4k either, i know how to read the step window well enough that i often dont take advantage of it.
It is more useful to me to have all the drums on seperate tracks for multitracking (unless there is a specific part that i want to have multiple drums in or a particularly lively track element).
Grid edit has at times been great to have though, especially when one is making glitch or other minimal percussive music. Sometimes it is nice to merge a bunch of the percussion tracks together into a new track and check out the grid edit for timing nuances, or to add another sonic element, to a particular pattern.

i just assign each drum sample type to one of the four assigneable outs - instant 4 track recording if i want.

yes, but i use the stereo outputs also for the extra track, then its nice to mute out the elements that havent been changed to an output yet or have already been recorded.

Grid edit with multiple tracks would be nice though.
