Whoa... managed to take a break from playing pong (eyes glazed over) just long enough to check...

They seem to think they nixed the new folder bug..

Also looks like they finally figured out that people are totally confused by the OS naming/numbering scheme, so the next update will be dubbed version 4.00! So now everybody will be even more confused if they come across those old "New OS v1.xx" files"... but I guess we can toss those now..

"In order to make this correction perfect, please format HDD by Version1.06 or Version3.06."

mmmm

to avoid lots of time spended (backing up your internal drive over USB 1.1) and risk of data loss, it seems a good idea to -only format a CF-Card with the new systems 1.06 or 3.06- to evaluate the effectivity of JJ's proclaimed solution. "I want to believe" as the poster in Mulder's office stated, but testing out first on the "2nd drive" is a good option!

hope all is fine though...

BTW -

Though I have experienced a number of weird glitches and in some cases fatal crashes over the course of ALL of the previous operating systems that have been issued for this thing (and I mean ALL of them -- JJ or Akai), I don't believe I have ever encountered the dreaded "New Folder Bug" I'm not about to deny it's existence, but It's funny -- especially since I overwrite the same folder contents all the time and the unit I have is probably among the first lots made. Then again, I don't really save that much stuff on the MPC itself anyway. I've tended to prefer a more "distributed memory" approach -- probably because I don't entirely trust MPC saving to begin with...

Also.. I've only used CF (the only spare laptop drive I have around here at the moment is an old 1gig which would be cool to try if the form factor wasn't too high to fit the bay) and the last time I formatted anything was with Akai v1.07.

Under 1.2, I had the new folder bug, and ran chkdsk (windows disk checking program) on the MPC hard disk - it spat out a tonne of errors, but eventually got rid of the corrupted folders and seems to be working fine now. Although I haven't tried creating any new folders on the mpc since...

i am almost positive that the new folder bug and file corruption originated from the DIRECTORY ERROR that happened when we used to try to save PROJECT and ALL files overtop of each other. samples and pgms seem to overwrite fine.

when i stopped doing that, i stopped getting Directory Errors, and i also stopped getting New Folder Freezes.

i wonder how jj fixed this?

So 3.06 and 1.06 ?? Whats the difference? Is 1.06 the next upgrade to be installed after buying your password?

maybe it's because i've been following this from the beginning, but am i the only one who is not confused with the numbering system.........? apparently this has been a fairly grand massive issue

the speed in which jj has allegedly solved the new folder bug/directory error bug etc makes me think that akai hahs not opened the source code for 2.1 since they slapped a release date on it and finished it off.

seriously, jj blows away akai's coding here - why in the WORLD do these machines not get regular updates? this is laughable, and jj blows a huge hole in akai's flagship.

maybe jj os Roger linn himself making back the money he deserves lmao akai cant fix the mpc OS because only roger knows how lol
