I havent used the machine since 2 month's., but now when iturned it on

It was/is fitted w 16mb. So what has happened? Do i have to open up the machine? But isin't the 2mb card removed when u install another board,..i havent opened it up since i got the machine a couple of years ago, neither hv i upgraded os(3.01) I used this macine for some sampling but most for midi seq and timing:) Drumssound come from synths and other drummachines in my setup so...

Does somebody has a clue whats goimg on,..!? I could live with 16mb, but 2mb, its start to go near my dss-1, for g-ssake!! :P

1: RAM failure.

2: RAM Controller PLD failure.

3: Badly seated RAM.

Situation 1 and 3 are most likely.

Open the machine up. Remove and re-seat the RAM ( with the power off and disconnected ).

Replace the RAM if problems still happen.

To look inside and perform work on the thing ... yes.

keio wrote:But isin't the 2mb card removed when u install another board,

There are some combinations that allow for EXM boards and SIMMS.

http://www.mpc3000.com/memory_options.htm

The EXM board is usually only pulled out when a machine is expanded to 32 megabyte.

In a 16 megabyte machine the RAM will more than likely be configured with an EXM3008 ( 8 MEG AKAI BOARD ) and 2 x 4 MEG 30 PIN SIMM RAM sticks. In this case then yes, the EXM3002 ( 2 MEG AKAI BOARD ) would have been removed.

3.01 ??? What the ??? Another jurrasic OS version or a typo on your part.

Don't you mean 3.10 ??? Either way ... might be time to update.

thnx for your help :)
i prepare then for a open up themachine session, puh.. :)

yes about the os thing, im actually run 3.01 ! ! (not a typo)

have a mac, and tried to upgrade, borrowing a friends usb-ddrive, but never got it to work, so i would be thrilled with a upgrade...so if there is a chip to install, that is kool! better than hv a disk to boot from.

thnx

Take it slow and with care so as not to mess any thing up :-)

Yikes ... another pre-release version from years ago.

That wouldn't be able to boot a newer version via floppy with much success.

Chips to install and still available.

In fact ... manufactured customised to order.

PM me for more info.
