I just got a MP 4000 and have yet to use it due to filming. I was wondering how does the Keygroup actually work. Is it like using the pads like a keyboard without using a midi controller? I am just used to playing basslines or keys with the pads manually...

Keygroups is 5 banks of 16teen different pitch variations for each bank. Therefore, you most absolutley, can play the pads on the 4000 as you would on a keyboard. On the other hand, you would only be able to play 16 notes at a time, as oppossed to playing up to 88 notes at a time on a keyboard. Thus, sophisticated orchestras would be a little more difficult to play on the MPC 4000 than a keyboard controller. I personally like playing the bassline on the MPC 4000, but when it comes to piano and strings, I'd rather play on the keboard.
