Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Alright, yes I have been looking around for this answer, I know of the comparison chart

"-XL Zone mode allows you to select up to 16 zones

-XL Slice function. When samples zoned like above, you can automatically create new program (with pad assignments and with extra specified samples at end of each sample because of the sample decay ). (Sort of like Recycle, but you have to manual zone the sample)"

does that mean on the regular 2000 you cannot chop samples on there? please get back to me, thanks

You can use zone edit to select as many zones as you want zone and do a certain thing to it by hitting the edit button under the ZnEdit function in the Trim screen.
2000 classic has no Slice function or anything that automatically makes zones of a cetain number or size for you, so you have to do it manually. If you want a certain number of equal zones divide the length of the sample by that number then make zones of that size. i.e. if your sample is st:0 end:16000 /16=1000 per zone, so in zonedit make the first one 0-1000, the second one 1000-2000 etc.

so thats basically chopping the samples there right? then assign them to the pads? thanks

i have a 2000 classic. go into the zone mode, and then make a zone, press edit, and save it as a new sound. save all your zones you have highlighted as new sounds, then when youre done just manually assign them to pads.

Yes but what Naychaboy is saying is once you've copied the sound to the pads you can set the start and end point to play that section of the sample.

Peace.

Yeah it's good cus if you F***ed anything up with your start/end pionts, you made copies, not chopped the original sample. Plus, you can set your 'Play X' soft button to 'Zone' and then that play X button becomes a 'note off' quick trigger. Then you set the cursor on the zone number, and you can flip thru your zones while quicly triggering each one. This is a more accurate representation of how sh** will sound when you are 'playing it out' on the pads, rather than guessing while you individually truncate each sample in separate screens. Man I love the ring on the outside of the wheel on the 2000 classic. Zone on my XL is much better with slice, but editing is smoother on the classic due to that wheel, imho...

on the classic 2000 i sample the sound then i selct each zone manually and go to zone edit SOUND->NEW SAMPLE and give it a name (eg. samp1,samp2 etc so i know how to assign them on tha pads.

QUESTION: do i have to save each one individually and then go to the load screen and load them in one by one? isnt there a shortcut or a quicker way?

Man when you finished the sequence just go to the disk screen, and save it as an APS. file thats all programs and sounds. that'll do or just save it as a PGM file that a program. Try'em see which one work for you.
